POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Maintenance Repairman 2 who will be responsible for a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the repair and upkeep of machinery, buildings, bridges, and equipment within the Centre County Maintenance organization. This role is essential for ensuring that all infrastructure and equipment are maintained to the highest standards, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of transportation services in the area. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will serve as the Yardman for the Centre County facility, where your primary responsibilities will include maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the yard’s common areas. You will be tasked with unloading delivery trucks using a forklift, receiving inventory-controlled materials, and relocating goods to their designated locations. It is essential to store items properly to mitigate hazards and prevent the accumulation of standing water. You will also be responsible for issuing materials to field personnel after verifying the necessary documentation, as well as confirming fuel deliveries to Bellefonte and collecting samples as required. Maintaining the fuel island in a functional and spill-free state is crucial, along with ensuring an adequate supply of spill control materials and equipment for immediate response to any spills in the yard. Additionally, you will identify and manage hazardous waste materials generated by the garage and field operations, coordinating their removal as needed. Your role will also involve overseeing scrap material disposal areas and facilitating the removal of such materials. Furthermore, you will provide support to garage operations, which may include the installation and removal of spreaders and pre-wet tanks, as well as managing trash removal. In addition to these responsibilities, you will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the repair and maintenance of machinery, buildings, bridges, and equipment. This work will require proficiency in multiple trades, allowing you to exercise technical independence in determining the most effective methods and procedures for each task. Your duties will include repairing roofs and installing flashing, gutters, and downspouts, as well as fixing doors, door frames, and furniture. You will also be involved in fabricating and installing temporary partitions, constructing forms, and utilizing both power and hand tools to carry out assigned carpentry tasks. Painting the interiors and exteriors of buildings will also be part of your responsibilities, ensuring that all work meets the facility’s standards for quality and safety. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Subject to change due to weather/season

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirement:

This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License.
