Job Description
To participate in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution/ transmission power lines, services, and meter assemblies. Apprentice is an entry level position in the line of progression for Lineman. Apprentices are expected to learn the Lineman job through on-the-job training, as well as through classroom-type training.
This position involves walking long distances, standing for extended periods of time, climbing poles, lifting and pulling of cable, digging with a shovel, and operating heavy equipment. Heavy work requiring exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee is frequently required to climb, twist, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, lift overhead, work with fingers, grasp, feel, and provide repetitive motion in the use of wrenches and tools. This job is primarily an outside job in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, is required. Work sites are potentially hazardous due to vehicular traffic, stinging insects, poison oak, poison ivy, wildlife and pets.
Irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays are required. Overtime is required. This position serves on-call rotation as assigned. Some overnight travel may be required.
