Job Description:

A semi-skilled line worker that installs and fixes overhead distribution and transmission systems, which includes poles, cables, and electrical systems. Line Workers also fit, repair, and maintain underground cables and electrical equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assists with installation, operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines and systems. Work is generally performed overhead.
  • Assists in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of distribution utility power lines.
  • Assists with service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems.
  • Receives training both in book/classroom skills and on the job skills. Must continue to pass ongoing training to precede to higher skill/job levels.
  • Operates motorized equipment, use hand tools, and perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery, and tools. Performs janitorial duties on equipment and in shop areas.
  • Stocks and services vehicles to be equipped to respond to emergency situations.
  • Work nights, weekends, and holidays for extended periods; may be required to perform duties as part of recovery force during emergencies and disasters.
  • Works at varying heights above ground, in manholes and/or in confined spaces with proper Personal Protective Equipment.
Minimum Qualification:
  • Ability to perform at varying heights above ground, in manholes and/or in confined spaces with proper Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk, climb and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material.
  • Must be able to climb a power pole using climbing hooks and belt.
  • Must be able to drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew, operate digger derrick to set poles and use jackhammer, etc.
  • Must be able to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain weight restrictions for bucket truck as identified by truck manufacturer.
Education and Experience:
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the electrical power line construction industry.
  • Be able to provide proof of work experience, schooling, and any certifications that you have obtained during your career.
Traveling Requirements:
  • Must be willing to travel in and out of state for emergency storm work.
Driver License:
  • Valid Driver’s License is preferred, but can be discussed during the interview process.
  • Valid CDL is preferred or willingness to obtain valid CDL within 90 days of employment.

  • Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather whilepleting work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8 or 10-hour day, be able tomunicate with others, read, write, andprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, andmunicate and handle conflict professionally.
