8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday•; on-call rotation and other overtime hours as needed. Occasional travel may be required for meetings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 Must reside within 30 miles of SYEMC office;  Must have successfully completed Lineman Apprenticeship program or equivalent.  Specialized training which includes live-line school and applied electricity.  Working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code.  Proven ability to perform all types of related line work.  Ability to learn and interpret maps, specifications, staking sheets, and complex diagrams.  Ability to maintain records required for time worked and materials.  Thorough knowledge of first-aid, safety rules, line materials and tools and their use.  Valid CDL Driver’s License required.  Must be able to ascend/descend poles, work at heights, meeting all safety requirements.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

May perform any combination of the following: (duties may include, but are not limited to):  Will serve on a line crew in order to provide members with service in line construction and maintenance of the co-op distribution system.  Under direction of Crew Foreman, build, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power distribution lines in a safe and efficient manner of operations standards.  Responsible for safe operation of equipment and operations on digger trucks (line trucks) and bucket trucks in order to construct and maintain electrical systems of de-energized and energized lines, trouble shoot problems of overhead, underground, substations, breaker stations, and transmission lines;  Working knowledge of URD pad mounts and URD specifications.  Working knowledge of reclosers, regulators, substation use, arresters, opening points and line feeds.  Ascend and descend poles of all types to change out crossarms, transformers and repair conductors, etc., as well as maintains current knowledge of equipment, RUS specifications, and OSHA regulations.  General Knowledge of a substation, use of VWE reclosers, substation regulators, general feeds, and voltage of a substation.  General Knowledge of transmission lines.  Must have ability to lead crew in duty work “on call rotation.”  Must show good judgment, safe work methods, and able to work well with diverse groups of people. Must consistently gain and maintain respect of co-workers.  Can lead crew when Crew Foreman is absent.  May assist in the training of less experienced Apprentice Lineman.  Participates in ongoing training as required.  Must perform Pole Top Rescue and Bucket Rescue in under five minutes.  Ability to work safely on 3 phase lines.

WORK CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight-rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.  Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays on an on-call basis.  Must be able to work outside during all weather conditions on a regular and/on-call basis, in a safe and productive manner.  May move up to 50 pounds in a safe manner.
