$32.1K – $37.7K a year 8 hours ago Qualifications CPR Certification First Aid Certification Working with middle schoolers Operations Teaching Entry level Full Job Description Durham Academy (DA) is seeking an energetic, creative, and detail-oriented Assistant Coordinator for the Middle School Extended Day (MS/ED) Program. This part-time role (Monday-Friday, 2:30-6p.m., beginning August 2024) supports the Extended Day Director and Assistant Director in the daily operations of the MS/ED program, including student supervision, program coordination, and communication with families and staff. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with middle school-aged children, thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, and is passionate about supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic growth in a fun, low-structure setting. Key Responsibilities Program Operations & Supervision Guide and observe student play while fostering healthy emotional and social development. Manage the daily student routine, including rainy day transitions, indoor space use, and special activities (e.g., movie days, popsicles). Support After-School Enrichment programming. Lead the daily 2:30-3:10 p.m. staff meeting. Assist in planning for All-Day Care and Early Release Days. Provide backup supervision during absences, meetings, or as needed. Space & Materials Management Keep all Extended Day spaces (room, lobby, closet, playground) clean, stocked, and organized. Maintain student backpack areas and manage lost and found. Organize and restock art supplies, games, and outdoor equipment. Ensure all equipment is stored properly at the end of the day. Staff Coordination Coordinate daily supervision assignments and adjust as needed. Support a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture. Coordinate rain day plans and assist in emergency coverage. Communication & Culture Serve as a point of contact via calls and texts on the ED cell phone. Maintain open, timely communication with the ED Director regarding student needs or issues. Ensure safe and welcoming transitions at pickup, including handling late pickups as needed. Ideal Candidate Experience working with middle school students in an educational or extracurricular setting. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Demonstrates cultural competence and a commitment to equity and inclusion. Clear communicator who builds rapport with students, families, and colleagues. Dependable, flexible, and responsive to the needs of a dynamic program. CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
