SUMMARY:

Sets up computerized numerically controlled machine toolsand related equipment for machining operations. Participates inproblem-solving activities and contributes to quality improvements.

Operates machines when required. Trains other department employeesand provides performance assessment feedback to supervisor. Takesinitiative to stimulate team-based quality and productivityimprovement activities, supporting the basis for continuousimprovement. Actively promotes teamwork atmosphere and supportsteam development.

DESCRIPTION

Works from drawings, blueprints, joblayouts, or other written specifications, determine feeds, speeds,tooling, and operational sequences. Set up and inspect the firstarticle part on any proven program and turn it in for QualityAssurance verification at an 80% approval rate. Change cuttingtools and location of workpieces during the machining process.

Installs cutting tools and various work-holding devices to handlethe size of stock to be machined. Operates and adjusts machinesuntil parts produced conform with specifications and timestandards. Makes necessary adjustments to set-ups during the courseof operations to maintain accurate production. Responsible forcompleteness of secondary setups. Detects and reports improperoperation, faulty equipment, and unusual conditions. Detects andreports significant variances in job standards. Upon completion ofthe “First Article of Verification” trains and monitors the work ofthe operator assigned to that machine. Run multiple CNC machines.

Performs secondary operations as defined by the traveler, usingvarious machines/tools such as files, drill presses, and sanders.

Assists operators on which dimensions to inspect, (proper tools andgauges). Ensures quality of parts before forwarding them to thenext operation/process. Responsible for the cleanliness of his/herown work area and the general housekeeping of the Company. Reportsany unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Management/Maintenance. Otherduties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

1 to 3 years of CNC setupexperience. 1 to 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.

Mandatory 4th-axis machining experience. Understanding of andexperience with offsets and adjusting them. Understanding of andexperience with the G52 line in the CNC program. Experience withedge finder and dial indicator. The ability to read and interpretblueprints is a must. Ability to use micrometers, calipers, heightgauges, and dial indicators.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Continuous mental and visual attention isrequired. Requires constant alertness or activity. Specific visionabilities required include close vision, distance vision, colorvision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability toadjust focus. While performing the duties of this position, theemployee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, orfeel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Theemployee is frequently required to stand and occasionally requiredto walk, sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularlylift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the essential functions of this position, theemployee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and isexposed to airborne particles and chemicals. The noise level isusually very loud. The employee is required to wear safety glasses,hearing protection, and safety shoes.
