SUMMARY:

The CNC Operator II sets up computerizednumerically controlled machine tools and related equipment formachining operations. This role requires a problem solver whocontributes to quality improvements. The CNC Operator II operatesmachines when required and trains other department employees. Whennecessary, this role will provide performance assessment feedbackto the supervisor. This employee must take initiative to stimulateteam-based quality and productivity improvement activities,supporting the basis for continuous improvement.

DESCRIPTION

Worksfrom drawings, blueprints, job layouts, or other writtenspecifications, determines feeds, speeds, tooling and operationalsequences. Set up and inspect first article part on any provenprogram and turn it in for Quality Assurance verification at an 80%approval rate. Change cutting tools and location of work piecesduring machining process. Installs cutting tools and various workholding devices to handle the size of stock to be machined.

Operates and adjusts machines until parts produced conform withspecifications and time standards. Makes necessary adjustments toset-ups during course of operations to maintain accurateproduction. Responsible for completeness of secondary set ups.

Detects and reports improper operation, faulty equipment, andunusual conditions. Detects and reports significant variances injob standards. Upon completion of “First Article of Verification”trains and monitors work of operator assigned to that machine. Runmultiple CNC machines. Performs secondary operations as defined bytraveler, using various machines/tools such as files, drill pressesand sanders. Assists operators on which dimensions to inspect,(proper tools and gauges). Ensures quality of parts beforeforwarding them to next operation/process. Responsible forcleanliness of his/her own work area and the general housekeepingof the Company. Reports any unsafe conditions toSupervisor/Management/Maintenance. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

1 to 3 years CNC Set up experience. 1 to 3 yearsexperience in a manufacturing environment. Mandatory 4th axismachining experience. Understanding of and experience with offsetsand adjusting them. Understanding of and experience with G52 linein CNC program. Experience with edge finder and dial indicator.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints a must. Ability to usemicrometers, calipers, height gauges and dial indicators.

PHYSICALDEMANDS

Continuous mental and visual attention is required.

Requires constant alertness or activity. Specific vision abilitiesrequired include close vision, distance vision, color vision,peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjustfocus. While performing the duties of this position, the employeeis regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feelobjects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Theemployee is frequently required to stand and occasionally requiredto walk, sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularlylift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the essential functions of this position, theemployee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and isexposed to airborne particles and chemicals. The noise level isusually very loud. The employee is required to wear safety glasses,hearing protection and safety shoes.
