T/C Arms CNC Operator Thompson Center Arms Farmington, NH 03835
Job Summary:
The CNC Operator will operate CNC machines to produce precision firearm components in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role focuses on running pre-programmed CNC mills and lathes, performing basic setups, and ensuring parts meet quality specifications. The ideal candidate will have foundational CNC operation experience, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance, including ITAR requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate CNC Machines:
Run CNC mills and lathes (3- to 5-axis) to produce firearm components, following pre-programmed instructions and ensuring adherence to specifications.
Basic Setup:
Perform basic machine setups, including loading tools, fixtures, and materials, under the guidance of machinists or supervisors.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct in-process inspections using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify parts meet tolerances and quality standards.
Material Handling:
Load and unload raw materials and finished parts, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
Machine Monitoring:
Monitor CNC machine performance, identifying and reporting issues such as tool wear or malfunctions to supervisors.
Basic Maintenance:
Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance on CNC equipment to maintain operational efficiency.
Blueprint Reading:
Interpret basic technical drawings and job orders to understand machining requirements.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols, environmental health standards, and ITAR regulations specific to firearms manufacturing.
Documentation:
Record production data, inspection results, and basic maintenance activities accurately.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with CNC machinists, quality control, and production teams to support efficient workflow and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience as a CNC Operator or in a related manufacturing role; experience in firearms, aerospace, or precision manufacturing is a plus.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in CNC operation or manufacturing is preferred.
Skills:
- Basic knowledge of operating CNC mills and lathes (e.g., Haas, Mazak, or similar).
- Familiarity with precision measuring tools and quality checks.
- Ability to read basic technical drawings and follow work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery and noise.
ITAR Compliance:
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident eligible to work with ITAR-controlled technical data.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with firearms components or manufacturing processes.
- Exposure to G-code or CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360).
- Experience in a high-volume production setting.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, high-volume production environment with a focus on precision and safety.
- Shift work may be required (e.g., 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift; 8- or 10-hour shifts, Monday-Thursday or Monday-Friday).
- Compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements, including ITAR and ATF regulations.
