Job Description

Sets up, plans, and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications. Must have CNC experience, good in math, can read blueprints, understands how to use calipers and micrometers for measurements. Inspects first-run piece after set-up and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications, using micrometers, precision dial gauges, and calipers. Makes subsequent periodic checks to guarantee adherence to print tolerance and make necessary adjustments. Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions. Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to set-up instructions. Changes cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in set-up instructions. Replaces worn or damaged cutting tools, using hand tools. Selects and installs specified cutting tools for job currently running. Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments. Monitors machine operation and display readouts to detect malfunction. Retrieves proper materials for job currently running and upcoming jobs. Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. Reads process sheets, blueprints and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications and operating requirements. Maintains log on inventory for total run parts and scrap material. Understands and maintains knowledge on

Maintains paperwork on finish product and moves product to designated area. Notifies supervisor of machine malfunction or when parts do not conform to specifications.
