Position Summary:
AAA, United States, Inc. has partnered with a company in Bayou La Batre, AL that specializes in custom marine vessel constructions. We are seeking a skilled Sandblaster/Painter to support marine vessel maintenance, repair, and new construction projects. This role is responsible for surface preparation using sandblasting equipment and applying protective coatings to ship structures, components, and machinery. The ideal candidate has experience working in shipyards or marine environments and can follow safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Essential Functions:
Perform sandblasting to clean and prepare surfaces for painting (e.g., hulls, decks, tanks, and structural steel)
Operate sandblasting equipment, including compressors, blast pots, hoses, and protective gear
Mix and apply marine-grade primers, sealants, epoxies, and topcoat paints using airless or conventional spray systems
Inspect surfaces before and after blasting/painting to ensure proper adhesion and coverage
Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring proper function and cleanliness
Work from scaffolding, lifts, and confined spaces while adhering to all safety protocols
Read and interpret paint specifications, blueprints, and work orders all environmental, health, and safety guidelines (including PPE, ventilation, and containment procedures)
Assist with masking, taping, sanding, and other surface prep as needed
Requirements
High school diploma or GED preferred
2+ years of sandblasting and painting experience, preferably in the marine or shipyard industry
Familiarity with
SSPC/NACE
standards for surface prep and coating application
Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions
Strong understanding of safe handling of hazardous materials and paints
Physically capable of standing, lifting, bending, and working in a physically demanding environment
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
