Summary The Paint Technician is a key person within the paint department and is experienced with all aspects of painting from diagnosing a problem, prepping the area, proper chemical usage, application and finishing the paint. Incumbent needs to be an organized individual that can prioritize work and be most effective at completing the workload.
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Understands sanding procedures and grit abrasive + Able to effectively mix and apply mill fiber and resins to parts + Able to properly use of blocking, DA, air file, Die Grinder, Disc Grinder, etc. + Prepares surfaces to be painted by grinding, sanding, or buffing to remove imperfections in gel coat surfaces + Fills or repairs dents or scratches and smooths surfaces + Applied paint, primers and sealers to fiberglass parts + Calculates amount of required materials based on surface measurement and instructions + Able to mix bondo, APF, primer, and sealers + Understands and completes cleaning procedure of primer and paint guns + Masks, tapes, bags or otherwise protects area that will not be painted + Effectively fair in parts using a smaller surface area with minimal surface distortion + Able to complete paint repairs + Able to buff/finesse painted surfaces + Self inspect painted product for defects (runs, fish eyes, DA, pinholes, etc.) + Ability to lift/move heavy objects + Able to self-inspect fiberglass parts + Able to work in other aspects of paint process + Flexibility to work extended hours, work on short notice and still have the ability to complete the task in a timely manner. + Able to manage a high level of work. + Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or GED preferred. + Technical School certification in applicable program preferred. + 1 year paint experience in painting automobiles, boats, etc.. + Experience using paint, chemicals, and process control. + Experience and knowledge using different paint guns, tips, applied pressure and tools. + Basic knowledge of hand tools needed + Ability to work under pressure. + Must be able to read and write English. + General knowledge of boat painting and marine manufacturing. + Good attendance required + Physical stamina and manual dexterity needed + Good written and verbal communication skills. + Able to work 3:00pm to 1:30am We are an Equal Opportunity Employer as well as a drug-free workplace.
