Paint & Blast Supervisor Job Description Position Title :
Paint and Blast Supervisor Position summary: Oversee the blasting & painting process, preparation technicians, and the proper use of all blasting & painting equipment. Able to operate or tend paint pumps to paint surfaces of railcar equipment. Performs all blast and coating inspections. Oversee safety precautions and personal protection devices are performed correctly. Adequately trains painting personnel and supervises stenciling. Trained to use all blast and coating measuring and testing devices in accordance with paint manufacture’s specifications, as well as customer specifications.
Tasks:
Supervises blasters and responsible for all blasting operations. Supervises painters and responsible for coating application over prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers or finish coatings. Select the correct application systems for coatings being applied Responsible for proper, cleaning, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths for cleaning duties. Monitor painting operations in order to identify flaws such as blisters, runs/sags and streaks so that their causes can be corrected. Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner. Oversees painter prep personnel for proper preparation prior to applying coatings. Supervises finishers and responsible for the removal and reassembly of gates, valves, hatches, etc. Select paint according to company requirements and match colors of paint following specified color charts. Adjust controls on infrared ovens, heat lamps, portable ventilators, and exhaust units in order to speed the drying of coatings between coats. Responsible for decal personnel, designs, lettering, or other identifying items to finished products, using paint brushes or paint sprayers and /or supervises stenciling. Lay out logos, symbols, or designs on painted surfaces, according to blueprint specifications, using measuring instruments, stencils, and patterns. Verify paint consistency, using a viscosity meter.
