Summary:
This position involves performing production painting tasks in accordance with both the coating manufacturer and company’s specifications, including the use of technical drawings. The primary method of application is an HVLP spray system, used while wearing a full-faced respirator, protective clothing, and other required personal protective equipment (PPE). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, paint preparation, inventory management, paint application, cleaning, and equipment maintenance. The position may also require involvement in other manufacturing tasks, such as abrasive blasting, thermal zincing, assembly, etc.
A range of tools, including hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools, as well as cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, and cutting torches, will be used. All work must be performed safely and in compliance with Tandemloc, State, and Federal safety regulations, including the proper use of PPE like safety glasses, safety-toed shoes, gloves, hearing protection, face shields, blast/paint suits, blast helmets, and respirators. Employees using respirators must pass pulmonary exams and be able to maintain a clean-shaven face for safety reasons. This position reports directly to the Welding Department Manager.
Work Experience
- Proven two (2) years minimum experience as a painter in a production or industrial setting.
Education
- High School Diploma or GEDCertification/Licenses
- An accredited degree or certification in a relevant painting-related field.
Technical Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of various painting techniques and materials, along with mechanical expertise to disassemble, clean, repair, and maintain different types of equipment
- Ability to read prints as well as have mechanical aptitude to use and understand measuring devices (i.e. calipers, tape measures, steel ruler)
- Constant exposure to one or more elements typically found in a manufacturing setting such as noise, dust, heat, fumes or dirt.
Work environment is not environmentally controlled to include very hot conditions in the summer months and limited heat in the winter
- Individuals will be expected to be in uniform utilizing proper PPE in an environment that can be very dangerous, loud and repetitive
- Must have the ability to focus and be attentive to safety and effective performance
- Must be able to work with limited supervision
- Requires good manual dexterity and physical stamina, with the ability to stand, kneel, lift, bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs. overhead for extended periods-Must be able to do repetitive assembly tasks
