M2X is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Role We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Electrical and Controls Technician for the next-generation M2X gas-to-methanol system. The Electrical and Controls Technician will play a critical role in the assembly, integration, wiring, and testing of our electrical systems. This position involves working with low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) panels, PLCs and control systems, HMIs, performing system checks, and supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT). The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with our engineering and production teams. In this role, the technician would install, operate, and repair electrical and controls systems on a gas-to-liquid synthesis system utilizing flare gases and other stranded gases. You will work with various electrical systems, including 480V motors/drives, high voltage and low voltage electric circuits, instrumentation, controllers, and associated enclosures. You will also operate the prototype and commercial systems to carry out key test and debugging operations. The role also supports electricians and technicians with verification and configuration of devices (e.g. VFDs, equipment, sensors, and process control devices), including developing documentation and procedures. Additionally, the candidate would have mechanical, manufacturing, and assembly experience, ability to follow work instructions, travelers, quality control inspections, interpreting assembly drawings, piping (isometric drawing) ISOs, and the ability to work collaboratively with our engineering and production teams. This role also involves installation and mounting of pressure vessels/heat exchangers, process piping, instruments, wiring components, and other components. You will have an integral role of assembling and integrating the electrical system of M2X’s next generation “chemical plant on wheels.” Specific responsibilities may include: Electrical Controls and Panel Design Develop and implement new control architectures and device specifications Assist with electrical systems for compliance with NEC or other standards (e.g. UL, CSA) Configure and test power electronics and control devices including: VFDs (Allen Bradley, Schneider) Contactors, relays, soft starts SCR Heater controllers Power monitors and meters PLCs, safety controllers, I/O systems Signal conditioners, intrinsically safe barriers Industrial sensors (e.g. pressure, temperature, flow, level, composition) Integrate, set up, and troubleshoot various communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus
TCP, SAE
J1939, RS-485, 4-20mA Assembly and Instrument and Component Integration Assemble electrical systems according to technical drawings and specifications Integrate various instruments and components into the overall system (e.g., thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, valves, etc.) Wiring and Panel Work Wire electrical systems, including LV/HV panels, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations Label and organize wiring for ease of maintenance and troubleshooting System Check-Out and Testing Perform system check-outs to verify proper installation and functionality Assist with system testing and troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) Support factory acceptance testing procedures to ensure systems meet specifications and requirements Document test results and collaborate with engineering to implement necessary adjustments
Quality Assurance:
Conduct quality inspections of electrical assemblies and components to ensure they meet quality standards Report any discrepancies or issues to the appropriate team members Collaboration Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other technicians to ensure project timelines are met Provide input and feedback to improve processes and product designs Safety and Compliance Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment Ensure all work is performed in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements General Assembly Installation of process equipment, including vessels, motors, pumps, electrical components, support systems, valves, and other components Assembly of major process equipment to sub-skid/modules, welding and bolting interconnecting process piping and installation of system control subcomponents Installation of pumps, electric motors, valves, controls, instruments, and related mechanical subsystems The Electrical and Controls Technician must work effectively as part of a team and represent M2X Energy well with partners and customers. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional technical competence and proficiency in electrical controls system fundamentals and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a passion for developing and testing new technologies to mitigate the worst effects of climate change. Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with practical electrical systems, including wiring and electrical system hardware installation and troubleshooting (e.g. PLCs, instrumentation, LV wiring)
- Technical or associate degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of professional experience with electrical systems and system controls
- Proven experience as an electrical technician or controls technician
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, electrical diagrams, wiring, and panel assembly
- Experience with low- and high-voltage systems
- Proficient in reading/interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in electrical work Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field
- Certification or licensing as an electrician or electrical technician
- 5+ years of professional experience
- Experience with Allen Bradley CompactLogix, Compact GuardLogix, Keyence Safety Controller
- Experience with Studio 5000 and other as needed Software
- Comfortable with Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block
- Experience with Ignition or other
SCADA/MES
systems
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Knowledge of advanced testing and diagnostic equipment such as HART communicators, digital multimeters, and process calibrators
- Industrial control experience (PLCs)
- Experience in deployment of electrical and mechanical (mechatronics) systems, including motor drives and other power electronics
- Knowledge of NEC code and electrical classification
- Experience with data acquisition systems and analysis
- Experience leading and participating in team settings
- Ability to enthusiastically work on novel, complex projects with minimal oversight.
