Non Exempt Summary:
The Controls and Industrial Electrical Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving electrical and automation systems across manufacturing operations. This role combines hands-on industrial electrical work with PLC and HMI support, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned. Abide by and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all company safety standards and regulations. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial electrical systems, including motors, transformers, switchgear, and control panels. Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on PLCs, HMIs, and associated control systems. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and ladder logic diagrams. Install and modify conduit, wiring, and electrical components in accordance with NEC and local codes. Support the integration of new equipment and automation upgrades. Conduct preventive maintenance on electrical and control systems to minimize downtime. Use AutoCAD or similar tools to update and maintain electrical drawings. Ensure compliance with
OSHA, NFPA
70E, and company safety standards. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve equipment issues and implement improvements. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and system modifications. Responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining equipment relating to electrical, PLC and electro-mechanical issues. Recommend improvements of techniques and procedures to analyze, troubleshoot, build up, maintain, and repair complex equipment. Diagnose electrical and control problems, and determine how best to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary. Utilize AutoCAD to review and develop electrical and control drawings. Complete repairs in conformance with established standards. Assist in formulating standards/work procedures while performing these duties. Assist in developing and continuously improving the preventive maintenance program. Assemble and complete periodic testing of new/different motor control devices, switch panels, transformers, generator windings, and other electrical equipment and components. Document recommendations, modifications and/or replacements via CMMS. Communicate and liaise directly with the operations departments to coordinate maintenance and repair work, and ensure a quick turnaround for smooth functioning of facilities. Maintain regular interaction with Facility/Maintenance manager, Operations Supervisors, and Operations Managers. Participate in training and continuous learning opportunities; meet training and/or certification requirements of the job, department, product or area as designated/defined in work instructions and quality standards. Maintain ongoing one-on-one communication with team members. Perform job related administrative tasks such as the completion of daily shift/maintenance records, and the maintenance of time/attendance.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in Electrical Technology or Industrial Automation preferred. Valid state-issued Industrial Electrician License required. Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining 480V 3-phase systems, motor controls, and VFDs. Experience with PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI interfaces. Strong understanding of
NEC, NFPA
70E, and industrial safety practices. Ability to work independently and respond to emergency maintenance needs. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Education/Experience:
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Industrial Electrical, Electrical Technology, or similar field; or completion of a four-year apprenticeship program in electrical/electronic technology, mechanical technology, or manufacturing technology; or combination of partial completion of education and a minimum of 7 years’ of Industrial Electrician or Maintenance Technician experience, of which at least 2 years’ experience in PLC troubleshooting. Experience in Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC’s
- Simatic Step 7, RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, RSLinx, etc.
is highly preferred.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Perform the four operations with like common and decimal fractions. Perform arithmetic operations involving all American monetary units.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
