Job Title:
Systems Technician Job Description As a Systems Technician, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining gas turbine engines, including main propulsion machinery, reduction gears, shafts, and controllable pitch propellers. You will also repair mechanical components, handle repairs for auxiliary equipment and propulsion control systems, perform routine maintenance to ensure proper functioning of fuel and lube oil systems, machinery control systems, and other auxiliary machinery, and troubleshoot and diagnose issues within the gas turbine engines and associated systems. Responsibilities Operate and maintain gas turbine engines and associated systems. Repair mechanical components and handle auxiliary equipment repairs. Perform routine maintenance on fuel and lube oil systems and machinery control systems. Troubleshoot and diagnose problems within gas turbine engines and associated systems. Ensure the smooth operation of propulsion control systems, including reduction gears and controllable pitch propellers. Maintain and operate electrical and electronic systems, including alarm and warning systems. Regularly conduct preventive maintenance to avoid equipment failures. Use hand tools for assembly and repair purposes. Interpret and implement technical instructions, blueprints, and schematics. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations in all aspects of work. Essential Skills Navy A-School experience (former military). Experience in controls system propulsion. Proficiency in operating and maintaining machinery control systems, including consoles and Programmed Logic Controllers (PLCs). Understanding and management of propulsion control systems. Experience with electrical components and electronic circuitry. Ability to attain security clearance. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to travel (10% of time). Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices. Proficiency in using various hand tools. Understanding of electrical systems associated with gas turbines. Experience in operating auxiliary machinery supporting turbine systems. Knowledge of turbine generators and their operation. Skills in diagnosing and fixing issues with gas turbine systems. Work Environment This position is 100% onsite at the Navy Shipyard with potential travel to other ships. You will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment where adherence to safety procedures is paramount.
