Job Summary The Electrical Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling, wiring, and testing electrical components and systems for custom grinding machines. This role involves working with both low-voltage and high-voltage systems, integrating PLCs, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This is a full time (hourly) roll working 1st shift Monday Through Friday with occasional overtime, field service work and weekends to meet project schedules. Key Responsibilities Electrical Assembly Assemble, solder, wire, and install electrical components for grinding machines, including control panels, sensors, motors, and wiring harnesses.
Route and connect electrical cables, ensuring proper termination and labeling.
Work with both low-voltage (24V DC) and high-voltage (up to 480V AC) systems. PLC and Control Systems Install and configure programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and related hardware.
Perform basic programming, testing, and troubleshooting of PLCs to ensure proper machine functionality. Testing and Troubleshooting Perform initial power-up of electrical systems and verify proper operation.
Conduct electrical continuity, resistance, and functional tests using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other testing equipment.
Diagnose and repair electrical issues, ensuring all systems meet specifications. Safety and Compliance Adhere to all company and industry safety standards, including
NFPA 70E
for electrical safety.
Ensure all electrical assemblies comply with relevant codes and standards (e.g., UL, IEC). Documentation and Communication Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
Maintain detailed records of electrical assemblies and updates to schematics.
Collaborate with engineering, mechanical assembly, and quality control teams to troubleshoot, resolve issues, increase efficiency, and optimize processes. Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certification in electrical technology preferred.
3+ years of experience in electrical assembly, preferably in industrial or manufacturing environments. Skills and Competencies Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Hands-on experience with low-voltage and high-voltage electrical systems.
Familiarity with PLC installation, configuration, and troubleshooting (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar).
Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and best practices.
Skilled in using hand tools, crimpers, soldering equipment, and electrical testing instruments.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Communicate and collaborate with team members in all departments both in shop and in the field.
Must be able to work independently and efficiently
Strong customer communication abilities. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with potential exposure to noise and machinery. Preferred Qualifications Experience with custom machinery or industrial automation systems.
Knowledge of servo drives, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and other motor control components.
Familiarity with grinding machines or other industrial equipment.
PLC and ladder logic.
