The role of the Diamond Turning/Grinding Technician is responsible for configuring and using precision machinery to manufacture molds used in the production of aspheric, spherical, and diffractive lenses. By following technical specifications, drawings, and blueprints related to optical components, the Diamond Turning/ Grinding Technician plays a pivotal role in guaranteeing the creation of molds of superior quality. Job Functions/Requirements:

Diamond Turning/Grinding Technician Primary job functions are listed below but may change without notice. Safely machine parts using CNC diamond grinding equipment. Perform machine/tool setups. Able to generate and or modify CNC programs. Perform quality checks on own work. Polish form sensitive mold surfaces using manual and automated techniques. Measure mold surfaces using various metrology equipment including profilometers, micrometers, measure scopes, microscopes, interferometers, diamond turning equipment, hard coating equipment, and nickel plating equipment. Use Diffsys programming software, and Visual Manufacturing software on a daily basis. Work independently managing time to keep up with production demands. May include cross-training in diamond turning, hard coating, and nickel plating processes. Other duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills Required:

Basic machinist skills. Ability to read technical drawings. Some experience using G-code. Knowledge of proper use of basic metrology equipment. Able to manage time wisely in order to meet deadlines. Possess analytical skills to collect and assess data. Demonstrate attention to detail. Able to assess and solve problems individually and within a group. Must be independent worker, self-motivated. Awareness of personal strengths and limitations. Strive for continuous improvement as an individual as well as at a group level. Proficient at using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the internet Able to solve basic math problems Ability to hold extremely tight tolerances. Must possess a positive attitude, including the ability to quickly adapt to changes in production requirements. Regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Frequently required to walk. Occasional standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing and stooping. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Able to work with moderate amount of noise. Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English. Minimum previous experience/qualification : High school diploma, GED, and two (2) years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of experience and education. Must be authorized to work and reside in the US and must be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government to confirm with but not limited to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR), but not limited to U.S. export (ITAR) guidelines.
