Job Summary:

The Masker is responsible for applying masking materials such as tape, paper, plastic plugs, or painted-on materials to metal parts for processing by metal finishers. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and adherence to customer specifications and engineered drawings. The Masker ensures that specified areas of metal parts are protected during various finishing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Masking Application:

Apply masking materials, including tape, paper, plastic plugs, and painted-on substances, to metal parts as per written instructions. Ensure accurate placement and secure adhesion of masking materials to protect designated areas during metal finishing processes. Verify that masking materials are applied in accordance with customer specifications and engineered drawings.

Preparation and Inspection:

Clean and prepare metal parts prior to masking to ensure surfaces are free of contaminants. Inspect parts before and after masking to ensure accuracy and quality. Make necessary adjustments to masking materials to meet precise specifications.

Documentation and Compliance:

Maintain detailed records of masking procedures and materials used. Follow all documentation requirements as per customer and company standards. Adhere to quality control standards and procedures to ensure consistency and reliability.

Safety and Maintenance:

Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe working environment. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.

Communication and Teamwork:

Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments. Collaborate with metal finishers to ensure proper masking and processing of parts. Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in masking, metal finishing, or a related field is preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions. Basic understanding of engineered drawings and customer specifications. Ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy and efficiency. Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Commitment to safety and quality.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching. Fine motor skills for precise application of masking materials. Exposure to chemicals and noisy environments (appropriate PPE provided).
