Appointment Status Full-time Part-time FTE Limited Term No Limited Term Length Job Summary The Sand Mountain Research & Extension Center located inCrossville, Alabama is currently seeking an Agriculture Technician.

The individual selected for this position will perform basic leveltechnical research tasks in agronomy, horticulture, livestock care,and farm facility repair maintenance for the center. The goal of SMREC research is to develop farm management practicesthat will help the region’s livestock, poultry, row crop andcommercial vegetable producers-particularly small-scale farmers-tooperate more efficiently, sustainably and profitably. Essential Functions Essential functions include but are not limited to thefollowing: Assists in soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, andharvesting crops used for research; operates and performs minormaintenance and repair on various research and farm equipment suchas trucks, tractors, pickers, combines, lawn care equipment, andresearch equipment. Cares for animals which includes feeding, watering,administering medication, and transporting in compliance withregulations and research protocols and others defined criteria. Assists in collecting, recording and/or reporting variousobservations, measurements, or other information for researchprojects; and constructs, repairs, and maintains facilities whichmay include (but is not limited to) houses, barns, storagebuildings, fences, corrals, and processing facilities. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
Level I:

High school diploma or equivalent; no experiencerequired.

Level II:

High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year of relevantexperience.

Level III:

High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years ofrelevant experience.

Level IV:

High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years ofrelevant experience. Substitutions allowed for

Experience:

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the requiredexperience, they may normally apply additional appropriateeducation toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1)year relevant education per year of required experience. Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications Minimum Skills and Abilities Excellent interpersonal communication skills; demonstratedtechnical excellence; and the ability to work both independentlyand in a team environment. Must be willing to work after hours andon weekends. Minimum Technology Skills Minimum License and Certifications A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior toselection is required.
