The associate will be heavily involved with assisting the Shipping Supervisor with bumps, inventory research, cancellation of deliveries, and closing out trips. The associate will be trained how to assemble furniture that is shipped from manufacturer unassembled. This associate will aid the Shop Clerk, in processing furniture in inbound Shop staging bay, and with product movement and flow throughout the Shop. This job will allow the associate to gain knowledge in learning to repairing furniture in the most effective and efficient way possible with emphasis on restoring color and finish to damages / defective furniture. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Assist the Shop Shipping Supervisor in bumps, replacements, cancellation of deliveries, and closing out trips. Communicate dispositions to appropriate parties. Must demonstrate aptitude for, and progressively acquire, skills and qualifications listed in job description for Shop Administrative Tech and Shop Inbound Freight Clerk. Cross-Train in Shop Clerk responsibilities, included, but not limited to, processing furniture in inbound Shop staging bay, and with product movement and flow throughout the Shop Learn the computer systems used by Furnitureland South. Learn to assemble furniture that is shipped to us from manufacturer unassembled (KD) Ability to interact with multi-tasked Drivers, Shop Technicians, and Customer Service associates to achieve minimal bumps on trips. Capable of learning the skills of sanding, gluing, and utilizing shop supplies and tools necessary for a quick fix on surface scratches, packing marks, chips, dents, and minor damage to produce an industry standard product. Ability to determine manufacturer’s defects versus transit damage. Capable of learning when and how to write up a manufacturer’s debit (VCB) Scan product with scan guns. Other duties assigned by supervisor. Be open to suggest any ideas for improvement. Arrive punctually and consistently for work for normally scheduled hours. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays. Perform various related duties as required. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Assist in keeping the warehouse and work areas clean and organized. Inspect all furniture and make repairs in a timely manner. The job duties are not limited to the items as described above, duties can be added or changed at any given time. Working Conditions This is an onsite position that operates in a traditional shop environment. Position requires bending, standing, and walking the entire shift. Physical Requirements Ability to exert force, lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects of at least 75 lbs. Ability to push, pull, and maneuver 100 to 150 lbs. with a dolly, hand truck, or wheeled cart. Ability to stand, walk, hold and lift, possibly for extended periods of time while performing these functions in a continuous sequence for up to eight hours with one lunch break. Safety & Precautionary Requirements Utility knife training, safety goggles and gloves worn when disposing of glass and wood Required Education and Experience High School Degree (College Experience Preferred…) Familiarity and compliance with all safety rules. Capable of learning to repair furniture to industry standards. Ability to use hand tools and shop supplies for quick fix repairs. Basic mechanical abilities needed to assemble furniture. Knowledge to determine damage versus defects in furniture. Must be highly motivated and dependable. Able to work in a fast-paced environment, mindful of safety at all times. Attention to detail. Keyboarding and basic computer skills.
