$20•$23/hour | Based on qualifications and experience | Starting pay during the temp-to-hire/ probationary period of approximately six months. The hiring company is looking to fill a permanent position. If hired permanently, pay and comprehensive benefits will be negotiated. Job Summary We seek to hire a dependable and safety-conscious Laborer to support Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) of the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Huntsville, AL. The HHW Laborer is responsible for collecting, storing, transporting, and disposing of residential-generated household hazardous waste and very small quantity generator (VSQG), always complying with program policies and procedures and federal, state, and local laws. This position involves handling, sorting, and disposing household chemicals, paints, batteries, and other materials. It’s an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals interested in environmental services, waste management, or public service roles. Essential Functions Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of collected materials and assist in pick-up and/or disposal. Greet residents, inspect materials for eligible HHW, and provide customer service excellence. Participate in community outreach events to educate the public on HHW disposal and environmental safety. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of work areas and equipment. Support the collection and sorting of HHW and VSQG, ensuring regulatory compliance. Aid in loading and unloading materials and ensure secure transportation to designated disposal or storage facilities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic understanding of hazardous material handling regulations Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing Familiarity with hand tools and HHW-related equipment Strong attention to safety and detail Team-oriented, with the ability to work independently as needed Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office Suites Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Experience in waste handling, environmental services, or a related field is a plus! Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license Preferred Certifications To be obtained within one year; 40-hour

HAZWOPER

CPR/First Aid/AED OSHA-10 Forklift certification Working Conditions Work is primarily outdoors in a field environment Exposure to chemical substances is routine Must be able to work in extreme heat, cold, and unpleasant air conditions Occasional weekend work is required for special events Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly, and occasionally up to 75 lbs Why Work Here?
