Senior Diamond Grader Position Available In New York, New York

Job Duties

• Sort rough diamonds into categories based on shape, size, color, and quality using professional scale equipment and plot diagrams
• Examine gems during processing to ensure accuracy of angles and positions of cuts or bores, using magnifying glasses, loupes, or shadowgraphs
• Examine gem surfaces and internal structures, using polariscopes, refractometers, microscopes, and other optical instruments, to differentiate between stones, to identify rare specimens, or to detect flaws, defects, or peculiarities affecting gem values
• Assign polish, symmetry, and clarity grades to stones, according to established grading systems, and estimate wholesale and retail value of gems
• Advise customers and others on the best use of gems to create attractive jewelry items
• Keep up to date on the universal grading system of the Gemological Institute of America (“GIA”) and other GIA standards.

Minimum Requirements:

A. Certified Diamond Grader by the International Gemological Institute (“IGI”).B. Two years of experience as a Senior Diamond Grader or related occupation. Experience must include

• Two years of experience performing diamond grading, assortment, and valuation as per international standards and using specialized equipment, including color sorting machines, sarin (measuring) machines, microscopes, magnifying glasses, diamond tweezers and loups
• Two years of experience pricing diamonds strategically to increase sales and market share
• Two years of experience optimizing inventory control
• Two years of experience troubleshooting orders with customers to assure that the clients’ expectations as to weight, quality, and amount of jewelry is maximized at a given price point.
