Job Description
The Locksmith is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and adjustment of mechanical locking devices and door hardware across the university’s facilities. The position ensures physical security and compliance with applicable life safety and accessibility codes by servicing locks, keys, door closures, and related components, and by adhering to the university’s key control policy to maintain accountability and access integrity Install, maintain, and repair mechanical locks, deadbolts, cylinders, panic hardware, door closers, hinges, strikes, and other related door hardware. Perform rekeying of lock cores and cut keys for university departments, staff, and residences. Maintain and update records in the key tracking system. Manage the university’s master key system to ensure proper structure, restricted access, and secure handling of high-level keys. Respond to work orders for lock and door-related maintenance issues. Document and manage work order activity using the university’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), SchoolDude. Provide limited support for electronic access control systems, such as verifying hardware operation or coordinating with technical staff for troubleshooting and repairs. Assist with the service and troubleshooting of the university’s electronic key management system (e.g., Morse Watchmans KeyWatcher) to ensure operational reliability. Collaborate with contractors or vendors when specialized lock or hardware services are required. Assist with installation oversight to ensure hardware meets campus standards. Maintain an accurate inventory of locksmith tools, parts, and commonly used hardware components.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Position requires availability for on-call rotation and emergency lock services after hours. High School Diploma and Vocational Training required. Associate’s degree preferred. 5-8 previous years of direct locksmith experience Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with vendors, staff, and other departments, as well as providing training and technical support. Expertise in operating locksmith equipment, including key duplicating machines, key originating machines, and key engraving machines. Proficiency in key tracking and master key software. Capable of managing multiple tasks and completing projects on time, ensuring proper coordination of maintenance and other departments. This is an in person position.
