And so much more! Essential Job Duties We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced-Level Locksmith to join our Building Maintenance and Operations Department. This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing key systems campus-wide, developing and implementing hardware specifications, and managing a variety of locksmith-related projects that support the safety and functionality of our campus buildings. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in reading and interpreting construction documents, estimating project costs, and leading projects from planning to completion. Strong skills in diagnosing and resolving issues with both mechanical and electromechanical hardware are essential. Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: Analyze key bitting arrays, construction documents, and hardware specifications to develop security solutions
Lead locksmith projects by evaluating costs, tracking orders, and ensuring timely completion
Collaborate with clients to define project scope, provide cost estimates, and deliver high-quality solutions
Install and maintain architectural hardware, including fire-rated exit devices, mortise locks, door closers, and deadbolts, doors and frame repairs
Review and verify construction plans, ensuring compliance with university specifications and industry guidelines
Guide contributing and journey-level locksmiths, ensuring they have the resources to complete tasks effectively
Utilize Excel, CAD, AERES, AiM, and Simple K programs for key management and planning
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electromechanical locking systems
Work closely with project managers, contractors, vendors, and university personnel to maintain secure and efficient locking systems
Develop and review punch lists for project managers to ensure contractors meet project specifications Other Responsibilities Will verify and re-verify others’ work for accuracy, ensuring it meets standards and code compliance.
Maintain mandatory on-call status to provide after-hours emergency service when paged; oversee special assignments as directed by the supervisor and remain responsible for meeting continuing education and license renewal requirements.
This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.
Qualifications Minimum Experience/Education High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Optional Guidelines:

Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Other Required Qualifications Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
Knowledge and skill to make necessary comments and reviews on new construction submittals, complete all tasks that relate to keying a building, paperwork associated with rekeys, key meetings pinning cores, cutting keys, installation of hardware.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications Extensive experience as a locksmith, preferably in an institutional setting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
Familiarity with AiM work order systems is a plus but not required.
Membership in the Associated Institutional Locksmith Association/and or recognized industry organization is preferred.
Certified Journey Level Certification and/or Fire Door Inspector Certification is advantageous but not mandatory. Required License or Certification Current locksmith license.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained. Valid NC Driver’s License required Yes
