Cylindrical Grinder Job Description We are seeking a skilled Cylindrical Grinder who excels in personal time management, cell and task organization, and adheres to production schedules. You will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC and manually controlled machines, such as precision cylindrical grinders, to produce aerospace parts according to sketches. Your role will involve using machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments to verify drawing and work order requirements, making shop computations relating to dimensions and tooling, and ensuring part quality by adjusting machine controls as necessary. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC and manually controlled machines, including 1998 Studer S40 with Fanuc 16-T control, 2008 Studer S31 with Fanuc 21i-TB control, and 2022 Studer S31. Use machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments to monitor and verify drawing and work order requirements. Make standard shop computations relating to dimensions and tooling. Monitor and verify quality in accordance with manufacturing planning, quality plans, and engineering drawings. Ensure part quality by adjusting machine controls as necessary. Meet production deadlines by following manufacturing schedules and procedures. Work with support resources and cell leaders to resolve production problems. Strive to improve manufacturing processes for efficiency and effectiveness. Observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. Clean machines, tooling, parts, and perform machine TPM requirements. Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the machine shop by participating in FOD, 5S, TPM, PM, and Process Improvement programs. Essential Skills 5 years of experience with multi-axis CNC Studer OD and ID machines. Advanced knowledge of precision measuring tools, gauges, and other inspection devices. Proficiency in reading part drawings, blueprints, dimensioning, and tolerancing including GD&T. Expertise in shop math. Understanding of CNC machine tool controls and G-code. Familiarity with DNC control systems. Experience in machine preventative and corrective maintenance, including troubleshooting. Demonstrated experience in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and waste reduction concepts. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent.
