CNC Machinist – 2nd Shift – Lathe Position Available In Middlesex, Massachusetts

Responsible for set-up and operation ofCNC machines in compliance with inch and metric drawingspecifications. Responsible for the proper use and maintenance ofall measuring tools and devices used in inspection of allcomponents. Works under general supervision. Although the locationof the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may berequired to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations. EssentialJob Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

• Performs set ups on various CNC Production Equipment such asmilling, turning or similar operations.
• Machines and/orfabricating precision tools and fixturing to tight tolerances andcomplex geometries based on specifications.
• Solid understandingof mechanical design and dimensioning principles which includesreading blueprints and geometric tolerances comprehension.
• Demonstrates a high level of knowledge in programming and overallmachine operation.
• Understands material properties (rates ofexpansion, strength, hardness) and special machining requirements
• Measures, inspects and troubleshoots dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Completes routineand priority tasks defined by management to ensure on timedeliveries.
• Performs periodic machine maintenance such as but notlimited to dismantling or partly dismantling machines andperforming repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools inscraping and fitting parts.
• Comply with safety regulations andmaintains a clean and orderly workspace /n In addition to theessential functions and duties listed above, all positions are alsoresponsible for:
• Meeting company standards pertaining to quantityand quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing allwork related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with allCompany policies and procedures.
• Adhering to Company policies,procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplacebehavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Physical Activities:

Must be able to lift 15lbs regularlyand up to 50lbs on occasion.

Requirements QualificationsExperience:

• 3-5 years of experience in a similar positionpreferred /n

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent orequivalent work experience
• CNC certification or CNC Trade School,a major plus /n

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience withHaas and Fanuc controls.
• Understanding of Virtual Gibbs andmanual programming (G codes/M codes).
• Familiar with the operationof DNC systems.
• Setup Time Reduction a plus
• Prototypingexperience a plus
• Strong sense of ownership and work ethic,written and verbal communication skills
• Communication skills
• Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere, and comply withhigh quality standards.
• Knowledge of Lean Principles including”Just in Time”, and Setup Time Reduction a plus /n Hourly rate forthis position is $24.70
