Responsibilities Duties of the Maintenance Machinist (Seagoing) will include the following: Candidate must be capable of traveling and performing duties on land/at sea in remote locations with potentially harsh weather environments.
Requires mechanical assembly work at the industrial facilities and remote station locations of the NDBC network in support of all operational missions and programs (Weather Buoy, DART, TAO, and C-MAN) as well as considerable travel, including at sea onboard U.S. Coast Guard, NOAA, University, or private vessels.
Perform field assignments as a member or team leader for installation, troubleshooting, repair and de-installation.
Prepare and organize buoy mooring materials for deployment at sea in regards to MooringProcess Inspection Plans.
Maintenance, repair, test, and modification of marine structural, mechanical, and mooring systems including splicing and termination of mooring systems.
Prepare surfaces and apply protective coatings, including blasting and painting.
Fabricate and weld using materials such as aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, and
various non-metallic substances.
Experience with the loading and offloading of equipment.
Knowledge of computer skills (Microsoft Office and Google) for communication and completion of test and filed related documentation.
Other duties as assigned.
Good communication skills and the ability to represent NDBC/Lynker in the field.
Qualifications The Maintenance Machinist (Seagoing) should have the following:
Education:
Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Maritime Technology or High School Diploma and Vocational-Tech in Mechanical Field(s) and 2+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
At least 2 years of experience in preforming duties in a seagoing environment not limited to maintenance, repair, test, modification and fabrication operations (e.g. Cutting, shearing, drilling, assembling, fabricating, fastening, and welding) of metallic-aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel as well as non-metallic materials.
Must be able to pass NOAA background check and obtain a Common Access Card, TWIC Card, and US Passport.
