Description of Work This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. “Internal Posting-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT Employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 May Apply” Salary Grade NC13 Salary Range $48,222 – $84,388 Work in this class involves the supervision of the Equipment Depot Machine Shop which consists of journeyman Machinist engaged in fabricating and repairing parts and equipment through the operation of a variety of multi-purpose precision machine tools. Work also includes the assignment and review of tasks performed by other trades personnel in related repair work. Monitors the quality and quantity of Machine Shop work. Use the computer and compiles time records to accurately transcribe daily timecards and equipment maintenance. Research new or better methods of repairs and is actively involved in the cost evaluation of jobs for cost savings. Will operate CNC (Computer Numerical Control) equipment which involves setting up the machine with the workpiece, selecting the correct tools, loading a pre-programmed CNC program (written in G-code), and monitoring the machining process while making adjustments as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Knowledge of the principles and operation of various machine shop tools and equipment.
Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in written form to guide and direct journeyman level machinist and other workers assigned to the machine shop.
Knowledge of precise measuring scales and the use of measuring instruments.
Demonstrated ability to operate CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining equipment and knowledge of the different CNC codes and what they are used for.
Demonstrated ability to instruct subordinate personnel in machine shop operations and techniques.

Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle.
