Job Description

CNC Setup Technician Matthew Dutton Associates Honey Brook, PA 19344 As a CNC Setup Technician, you’ll be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce precision parts per engineering specifications. This role demands technical expertise, strict adherence to quality and safety standards, and exceptional attendance. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in CNC setup, programming, blueprint interpretation, inspection processes, and specific machine functions, including machine setup, auto functions, mid-auto functions, restart function, manual functions, mid-auto/manual functions, program editing, zero set-functions, and tool offsets. Attendance is of prime importance.

Responsibilities:

Perform machine setup by installing and adjusting tools, fixtures, and attachments per job requirements. Execute zero set-functions to establish accurate reference points for machining operations. Set and adjust tool offsets to ensure precise machining and compliance with specifications. Load and unload materials, ensuring proper alignment and secure placement. Operate CNC machines using auto functions, mid-auto/manual functions, restart function, and manual functions to produce parts efficiently. Perform test runs to verify program accuracy and make necessary adjustments. Demonstrate proficiency with the Okuma control panel, including the coordinate system, program editing, and identification of M & G-codes. Input and edit CNC programs to meet part specifications, ensuring accurate machine setup and operation. Adjust machine settings (e.g., speed, feed, offsets) to optimize performance and ensure part accuracy. Read and interpret technical blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine setup specifications and machining processes. Properly document inspection and production results as required. Demonstrate proper use of inspection equipment, including micrometers, calipers, comparators, and height gauges, to verify part compliance with tolerances. Inspect finished parts to ensure adherence to quality standards and document results accurately. Identify and troubleshoot machining issues to maintain quality and efficiency. Read and comprehend ISO policies, procedures, and work instructions as they pertain to the CNC Department. Ensure all activities align with ISO standards and company quality protocols. Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs. Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors promptly. Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OSHA regulations. Work closely with machinists, engineers, and quality control teams to ensure efficient production workflows. Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and quality. Train and mentor junior operators as needed.

About You:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in CNC machine setup and operation in a manufacturing environment.

Blueprint Interpretation:

Must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blueprints and properly document results. Test administered by Quality Manager.

Inspection Equipment:

Must demonstrate proper use of micrometers, calipers, comparators, and height gauges. Test administered by Quality Manager.

CNC Proficiency:

Must possess knowledge and ability to demonstrate proper use of the control panel, including coordinate system, program editing, zero set-functions, tool offsets, M & G-code identification, and machine setup. Must demonstrate proficiency in auto functions, mid-auto functions, restart function, manual functions, midi functions, and troubleshooting machine and part programs. Must pass CNC Setup Evaluation with a score of 85% or better. Ability to read and comprehend ISO policies, procedures, and work instructions as they pertain to the CNC Department. Familiarity with a variety of materials, including metals and plastics. Must show within 30 days (per union contract) the mechanical ability and dexterity required to perform the job duties effectively.
