Job Summary:

The Packaging Lead is an hourly, full-time supervisory position responsible for assisting the Packaging Manager with the daily administrative and operational issues within the Packaging department at Terrapin Beer Company. The Packaging Lead is a position of leadership within Terrapin Beer Company and requires being “hands-on” in the brewery at all times to ensure packaging operations remain on schedule. The incumbent will report directly to the Packaging Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

Requires maintaining a safe and secure working environment within the packaging department at all times. Continually evaluates packaging SOP’s and standards of excellence regarding safety and production. Ability to accurately follow SOP’s and understanding of specific beer process terminologies. Displays effective communication & leadership skills on a daily basis with all employees, management, clients and vendors. Operate both manual and computer automated equipment while maintaining quality standards. Ability to operate bottling line equipment including pack-on conveyors, bottle rinser, case packer, labeler and box shop including the multipacker, case erector and 6 pack erector. Ability to operate the SMB filler and VideoJet within the bottling line. Ability to operate canning line depalletizer, air rinser, Heuft, switchback and CFT can filler. Assist the Packaging Manager with proactive scheduling needs for production. Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with US laws and accepted business ethics. Follow all company policies & procedures, reflect organizational core values and strive to maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times. Practice safe work methods and comply with wearing and using the proper PPE 100% of the time on the floor. Must be able and willing to work a variable shift schedule that is dependent upon the operational needs of the brewery. Must be willing to come in on short notice in the event of equipment failure or staffing production needs. Work in a loud production environment and flexibility to work all shifts, additional hours, holidays and weekends as necessary. Must demonstrate a professional and engaged demeanor at all times and treat every employee, customer and/or client with dignity and respect in all interactions. Able to perform any and all required maintenance on Packaging equipment. Performs weekly and monthly inventory audits and reconciliation of overages/shortages of materials. Ability to frequently reach, twist, stoop, crouch, stand and walk for 8-10 hour shifts. Must be able to lift 50lbs repeatedly and maneuver up to 175lb kegs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

2 year degree in Mechanical Systems, Engine Repair, Packaging Technology or similar technical-based degree program. Or relevant work experience and educational attainment. Similar job or work history with a minimum of 2 years’ experience. The candidate should possess a strong understanding of all areas of safety and packaging standards. Strong skill set related to and cognition of mechanical, electrical and industrial systems. Must be self-motivated, have excellent written skills, verbal communication, time management, strong leadership skills, as well as very strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Candidate must be able to work under stressful situations unique to the manufacturing/production environment of a fast-paced brewery. Candidates must be proficient in MS Office software including Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications :

Previous experience as a Packaging Supervisor, Packaging Manager, Lead Packaging Technician or Senior Packaging Technician in a similar sized or larger brewery with 5+ years’ experience. Preference given to applicants who complete Brewery Packaging Technology coursework through the Master Brewer’s Association.
