Position Summary:
The Sawyer is responsible for operating and maintaining the saw equipment to process logs into cants or rough-sawn lumber. This role plays a key part in ensuring production efficiency, quality, and safety within the mill.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate saw equipment to cut logs into predetermined sizes and shapes. Monitor and adjust machine settings to optimize cut quality. Inspect logs and finished cuts for defects, proper sizing, and grade. Communicate with other mill personnel to ensure consistent flow and production. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on saw equipment. Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area. Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly. Assist with log positioning, equipment cleaning, or other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
Prior experience operating sawmill equipment preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to read measurements accurately. Mechanically inclined with basic troubleshooting skills. Able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. Good communication and teamwork skills. Willingness to work flexible shifts or overtime if needed.
