Production Manager The Machine Operator is to effectively and efficiently prepare, produce and maintain the required production that is assigned to a machine. The duty during the assigned shift is to the assigned machine. Most machines are designed for a single operator to perform these tasks. The duties and responsibilities are as follows but not limited to:

Before Shift Begins:

Meet with previous shift operator and visually inspect machine to ensure: Cleanliness No damage or missing parts to machinery, material, or tools Shift log is complete, and creel is properly stocked. Trash bins are emptied. Finished goods located at machine are properly labeled. All necessary items are near machine (pallets, tubes, plastic wrap, and tape) Anything not properly done on previous shift, report to Lead.

Work orders:

Check all material on work order and make sure that is what is at the machine. Check for number of rolls and for weight and length. Follow any special instructions. Check that correct size is available for the order. Make sure all samples are taken to and approved by quality. Has the order signed before running order? Document correct meter on shift report Raw materials: Notify warehouse or Lead when more material is needed. Make sure that all material delivered to machine is recorded with lot number and pallet number. Return raw material to be loaded on pallet correctly and returned to warehouse.

During Shift Operations:

Be in the correct position to be able to observe the stitch head and carriers. Continually walk around machine while running. During operations constantly check carriers to ensure that: they are properly threaded and there are no crosses. material is laying properly on machine with no gaps. there is no visible damage or strange noise coming from it. continually check for missing, broken or tangled strings check that the correct material is loaded according to work order. make sure carriers are clean and clear of obstructions. Continually check that all machine bed rollers are clear of fibers (NO

RAZOR KNIFE TO BE USED

) Make sure that brushes are clean of waste material. Regularly check for dirt or foreign objects on machine Empty vacuum, when necessary, throughout the shift Maintain the creels to ensure they are loaded, and material is spliced to keep production running. Notify warehouse or Lead if raw material is needed. Keep area clean at all times.

Finished goods:

Make sure hands are clean. Have cart/buggie prepared with plastic wrap before rolls are finished. Doff finished rolls onto the cart. Prepare the start of a new roll with tube (start machine back up) Weigh roll and take the diameter and circumference of roll, then wrap. Document all measurements Place roll correctly on pallet (once all rolls are on pallet notify Lead and warehouse to remove the pallet) 30 minutes before shift change make sure machines are clean, creels are loaded, no crosses in material, trash is emptied, all documents are filled out properly, and tools are placed in correct area. Start machine back up until shift change. (Make sure the machine is running when next operator comes to machine)

Production Expectations:

All machines will run at different speeds; therefore, production efficiency will vary. Machine Operators are expected to maintain no less than 75% efficiency. To calculate efficiency, multiply the machine speed by the number of hours in the shift and multiply the sum by 75%.

Example:
Machine Speed:

160 meters per hour Shift length: 7.6 hours (8.5 hours daily with a 30-minute lunch and 2-10-minute breaks) % of run time: 75% 160 x 7.6=1216 meters 1216 x 75%=912 meters When a machine is down (ie: tech working on machine or waiting on quality control to approve material), document this on the shift report so the down time can be calculated and subtracted from run time) Notify Lead or Supervisor if this occurs. Clean the machine or help others during any down time.
