Summary The Gluer Operator is responsible for the optimum production output and the efficient quality standard operation of the gluer machines. The Gluer Operator starts the machine when all sections are set up and all team members are aware of intention to start. Upon startup of gluer, the Gluer Operator will check cartons for proper folding of creases, caliper and bond as well as check for marks or other defects. The Gluer Operator continuously checks the cartons for defects – cracking, gluing, printing and caliper, etc. If defects are found, the Gluer Operator will stop the machine, if necessary, and make corrective adjustments. Responsibilities Responsible for the efficient operation and quality output for all areas of responsibility. Operate and understand the entire machine process and its capabilities. Ensure product speeds adhere to that of the machine packer. Adhere to all quality specifications and color standard procedures. Inform Quality Manager of any quality problems/variances immediately. Constantly monitor gluer machines for supplies/material availability. Plan and implement preventative maintenance for the glue machines, record any breakdowns in maintenance book and order machine parts/services when needed. Assist Glue machine feeder with each job start-up, assist in machine breakdown and instruct for efficient operations. Help the Scheduling Coordinator, with estimating in process jobs completion dates; inform of any variances to work schedules. Attend project committee meetings when needed. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Feed machine of folders/cartons at an efficient pace using proper feeding procedures. Ensure carton folds are being made on the score lines. Confirm cartons/folders are feeding straight; make necessary adjustments to kicker rolls when applicable. Examine glue being applied throughout the machine for proper hold and applying evenly, make necessary adjustments. Verify completed skids contain cover sheet per job and are properly shrunk wrapped before moving to glue machine area. Adjust feed to prevent scuffmarks, pay special attention to loose feeding to prevent double feeding. Learn and apply the different gluing systems; type of glue used with each system and storage area for glue. Practice total line clearance for all jobs. Learn all aspects of the job jacket, paying close attention to different items, casing instructions, production codes, waste form and job control procedure sheet. Adhere to all training periods and assist in all phases of the operation. Adhere to and support all Quality, GMP, and Food Safety Policies and Procedures. Stack all material returning to another department neatly. Understand all stop/jog/run controls and their locations throughout the machine. Clean blow-up pipes when applicable. Adjust stacking speed, belts, and glue table as needed. Check levels of glue dispensers and refill them when needed. Clean glue off wheels and guides; fill glue bottles for next shift. Ensure the packer has proper materials such as cases, dividers, tape etc., before each production run, use all supplies efficiently. Other duties as required. Qualifications Position requirements High school diploma or GED preferred. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong mathematics, computer and reading skills. Must possess a positive attitude 3 – 5 years’ experience within window/gluing operation, some supervisory experience is a plus. Must be able to lift 50 lbs Must be able to bend and lift Must be able to pull loads Must be able to stand during scheduled shift Ability to plan, solve problems and work within schedules and budgets. Qualifications While performing the duties, an employee is regularly required to talk or hear, walk or sit, stand, use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to focus are required.
