MACHINE OPERATOR

This standard procedure establishes and describes the duties, authority, responsibilities, reporting relationships, job requirements and measures of performance of the Machine Operator Position of Private Label Foods of Rochester, Inc.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Machine Operator works on the production line.

Typical hours are between 6:00AM and 4PM, Monday -Thursday. May be required to stay later until production is finished, or on a Friday if another day is missed or production needs to roll over for any reason.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Machine Operator reports directly to and is fully accountable to their assigned Line Lead, Production Supervisor, Production Manager, and Chief Operating Officer.

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Highly Preferred:

Valid driver’s license and

Forklift Certification Required:

Minimum of one full year of manufacturing experience in a production industry environment/plant as a machine operator.

Highly Preferred:

Minimum of one full year of experience in a food processing industry environment/plant as a machine operator. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities (

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of basic business math. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Familiarity with operation and maintenance of equipment used in a food processing operation.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good interpersonal skills in associating with employees.
Physical:

Must have good eyesight (corrected if necessary) to be capable of close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Must be able to talk and hear (assisted if necessary). Must be capable of standing; sitting; walking, using hands and fingers to handle or feel; reaching with hands and arms; bending, twisting,, climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling and crouching in order to conduct business. Must be capable of lifting up to fifty (50) pounds. Anything over fifty (50) pounds must be a two or three person job. Must be capable of moving throughout the office, warehouse and production facility.

Mathematics:

This position requires the ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as it relates to operating reports, product counts, recipes, inventory levels and measures of productivity and profitability. Must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of basic business math and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.•

Language:

This position requires the ability to read, write and speak English in order to communicate effectively with direct reports, Management, and customers.

Other:

This position requires the application of analytical and reasoning skills in a production environment. This includes the ability to identify problems and to carry through with implemented solutions.

  • Working Conditions Most of the work will occur in the non-environmentally controlled, food processing facility.

There will be exposure to operating equipment involving moving parts and elevated temperatures. There may be occasional exposure to non-food processing odors and fumes during visits to the warehouse and shipping areas. Some work will occur in the environmentally controlled office area as reports are generated or computer entries are made. Occasional travel may be required in the local region. A varied work schedule and overtime may be required to meet the needs of the Company and its customers. Plant atmosphere during warmer months will be non-air-conditioned, and while most areas of the production facility are heated in the colder months, the atmosphere tends to be cooler. Please dress accordingly, with any additional layers worn under the Company uniform. Office atmosphere during warmer months will be air conditioned, and heated during colder months. Please dress accordingly, while following the dress code. Occasionally, there may be technical errors with the heating or air-conditioning. Authority:

The Production Line Lead, Production Supervisor, Production Manager, and Chief Operating Officer delegates to the Machine Operator sufficient authority to make decisions and take actions required to satisfy the responsibilities of this position provided such actions are consistent with established Company policies and procedures and sound business practices. Included in this is the accountability for both acts and omissions.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Operate assigned production machinery in an efficient and effective manner. Perform all other duties as assigned in an independent manner with little supervision. Consistently recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned and assists others as needed. Seeks guidance and direction as necessary for performance of duties. Demonstrate good judgment in investigating problems. Respects the confidentiality of Company, customer, and personnel information. Maintains a cooperative working relationship with the Management, Supervisors, and all other employees. Demonstrates the ability to tactfully deal with difficult situations. Makes the best use of time during the workday. Consistently shows the ability to recognize and deal with priorities. Has the ability to meet deadlines as established by the Production Manager and Chief Operating Officer. Always provides proper notification and advance notice for non-emergency absences. Reports to work on time, promptly returning from lunch and breaks, and not leaving work early. Maintains all company safety policies, rules and regulations. Seeks out opportunities to improve methods, processes and procedures to benefit the company, and research and develop these ideas, as appropriate. Performs any other tasks or duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Line Lead, Production Supervisor, Production Manager, or Chief Operating Officer.
