Orthopedic Technician/Medical Assistant General Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Orthopedic Tech/Medical Assistant is to assist the physician and advanced practitioners with the direct patient care and administrative tasks that provide a steady daily workflow for the physician and office. Experience in an Orthopedic Surgery practice including casting and supporting procedures and injections preferred. A sign-on bonus of $1,500 is available for an expereinced candidate. Essential Job Functions•: Measures, applies, changes, repairs and removes casts, braces and splints for patients. Applies and instructs patient in the use of durable medical equipment. Removes dressings, sutures and staples. Prepares patients for exams and special procedures and cleans rooms between each patient encounter. Identifies and reports changes in patient status to Advanced Practice Provider or Physician. Initiates CPR and emergency measures as required. Ensures supplies are stocked and equipment is in safe working order. Demonstrates accurate and descriptive clinical documentation Obtains and documents patient’s weight, vital signs and initial information for providers as assigned. Conducts initial assessment of patients with orthopedic pathology. Presents case to the Advanced Practice Providers or Physician. Assists with sterile prepping for aspirations and injections. Removes sutures/staples and provide wound care Comply with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job. Meet department customer service standards and strive to enhance the level of customer service provided.
Qualifications:
Proficient specialty experience in working in Orthopedic practice MUST be experienced AND comfortable with casting, splints, braces, etc… MUST be able to apply casts comfortably with proficiency
Education Required:
high school graduate with medical experience.
Work Experience Preferred:
Minimum 1.5+ years of ambulatory, clinic and/or family health center experience
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Preferred:
Orthopedic Tech certification/Medical Assistant certification
Required:
BLS/AHA Other Skills/Knowledge Required:
Typing and computer skills necessary
Preferred:
Experience with electronic medical record system(s)
