Full Job Description Overview:
The Batch and Mixer Plant Operator is responsible for overseeing the operation of a concrete mixing plant, ensuring the production of high-quality concrete by accurately weighing and combining raw materials like cement, sand, aggregate, water, and admixtures according to specific mix designs, while maintaining proper equipment function and adhering to safety regulations; his/her duties include monitoring the mixing process, performing quality control checks, maintaining inventory levels, documenting production records, and heavy equipment operation.
Responsibilities:
- Operating the batching system: Controlling the flow of raw materials into the mixer based on pre-set mix designs using a computer-controlled batching system.
- Quality control: Regularly testing concrete samples to ensure they meet required specifications for slump, strength, and other properties. Measuring and checking forms and reinforcement materials against engineering drawings for accuracy. Measuring and checking quality of finished castings.
- Inventory management: Monitoring and maintaining appropriate levels of raw materials like cement, sand, aggregate, and admixtures.
- Equipment maintenance: Performing routine inspections and minor repairs on the batch plant machinery, reporting any major issues to maintenance personnel.
- Loading and dispatching concrete: Preparing concrete loads for delivery to job sites, ensuring accurate mix designs and quantities are loaded into trucks.

Recordkeeping:
Maintaining detailed logs of production data, including mix designs, batch weights, and quality control results.

Safety Compliance:
Following all safety procedures and protocols while operating the batch plant.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Basic math skills: Ability to perform calculations related to ingredient weights and volumes.
- Mechanical aptitude: Understanding of basic machinery operation and troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail: Ensuring precise measurements and consistent quality of concrete and concrete castings.
- Computer literacy: Familiarity with computer-based batching systems. Ability to work with typical office productivity software such as email, word processing, spreadsheet, etc.
- Physical ability: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform tasks like climbing ladders and lifting materials of up to 50 pounds.
Work environment:
- Primarily based at a concrete batch plant, often outdoors, exposed to weather elements.
