Work involves assisting with the operation of a water reclamation facility by performing process control of complex biological systems; conducting routine laboratory analysis; adjusting and monitoring equipment, machinery, and related control apparatus; performing some maintenance activities; and performing minor facility, grounds and building maintenance duties. Work includes using water resources related computer systems such as a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, a Work and Asset Cloud Service (WACS) system and programmable logic controllers (PLC); reviewing electronic monthly reporting for regulatory purposes; recording information for tracking, analysis and reporting purposes. Work also includes inspecting, maintaining and assisting in the repair of industrial machinery, including bio-solids dewatering and thickening equipment, conveyors, screens, compressors, electric switch gears, motors, pumps, collectors, filters and other related equipment. Due to the critical responsibilities of this classification, an employee in this class must be able to report to work outside of normally scheduled work hours to respond to emergency conditions and/or address urgent needs, at the discretion of management. Applicants who have completed an appropriate amount of classroom study and work experience, hold necessary licenses and certifications, and have demonstrated skills and abilities, may be considered for hire at the more skilled Operator II level.
Salary:
$20.96 – $35.08 Hourly•The hiring department will consider applicants for the Water Reclamation Plant Operator I or II level, depending on qualifications, certifications, and experience. The entry level pay for Operator II is $25.15 hourly.

Applicants must:
Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency. Possess and maintain a valid Driver License. At the Operator I level, are required to complete the Florida Rural Water Association Wastewater Operator Apprenticeship Program. Take and pass a training course on wastewater reclamation as part of the job assignment (unless already completed). Obtain a State of Florida Domestic Wastewater Operator “C” License for wastewater treatment within two years after appointment to the position (applicants that currently have any level of Wastewater Operator License must provide the license number on the resume or attach a digital copy to the online application). Be able to perform shift work. Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster. Desirable Qualifications.
Preferred Applicants:
Have a State of Florida Domestic Wastewater Operator “C” License. Have experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical machinery like that used in a wastewater reclamation facility and are able to detect faulty equipment and make minor mechanical repairs or adjustments. Have previous experience or knowledge of SCADA or WACS systems. Are able to accurately follow routine procedures; understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; perform basic mathematical calculations; maintain accurate and detailed operating records; input information into a computer terminal following written instructions; and are able to perform various physical duties such as walking, climbing stairs, twisting, turning, lifting heavy items, digging, shoveling and manually operating gates and valves.
