Position Summary Description
To ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of all relevant equipment to maintain the plant’s electrical load requirements and direct assigned operations personnel in tasks. Qualifications and Education Requirements
Associates degree preferred, high school diploma/GED required and five (5) years of power plant operations experience in a coal fired power plant preferred. In order to bid on the position of CRO, you must have all three (3) CRO booklets completed successfully. As the successful candidate you must complete the fourth (4th) book within three months of being in the position of CRO. An external candidate must complete all four (4) CRO books within two (2) years.

Essential Functions
Provides safe, efficient, and continuous operation and monitoring of all relevant equipment, systems, instruments and controls necessary to maintain the electrical load requirements.
Monitors and operates the electrical panel which includes the Generator, Exciter, Switchyard and Transmission Systems.
Monitors and operates the various systems via computer control console screens, printers and alarms and communicates information and direct the activities of other shift personnel as appropriate.
Knows the name, location, function, and all applications of plant equipment.
Learns, understands, and follows proper operating procedures during load changes, shutdowns, start-ups, abnormal operating conditions and emergency situations.
Learns, understands, and follows procedures for bypassing, stabilizing and isolating systems and components.
Knows and understands the relationships between all systems and equipment.
Adequately communicates to the incoming operator the status and other pertinent information of all equipment, systems, load schedule, etc.
Understands the principle of electric circuits and relays, voltage, amperage control, excitation, transmission, and turbine generator operations.
Accurately observes and interprets plant conditions and unit information from all relevant instruments and displays and takes appropriate action.
Maintains various operational logs, readings, forms, records, and other written materials. Performs periodic operational tests and notifies the Production Manager of needed repairs or unusual station conditions which may affect the plant equipment and/or personnel safety.
Maintains clean work areas, such as control room equipment, control boards, etc.
Maintains appropriate contact and communication with the Production Manager pertaining to plant conditions.
Acts as the telephone operator for incoming and outgoing calls after normal working hours and on weekends as required.
Knows all current applicable safety regulations, guidelines, equipment, and procedures.
Signs off on training requirements of all operators as assigned or as needed.
Follows proper procedures for responding to emergencies within the plant site, and properly communicates with immediate supervisors.
Develops subordinate operators by providing direction, coaching, and monitoring of job performance of each operator assigned. Verbally communicates performance information for assigned operators to Production Manager.
Administers the plant LOTO system per plant procedures as required to allow maintenance activities to be performed safely.
Takes a proactive approach regarding personal safety, safety of others and complies with all OSHA and SECI safety rules. Completes all necessary online or classroom safety courses as directed. Participates in safety briefings and meetings.
Takes a proactive approach regarding environmental rules and regulations governing the operation of the plant. Completes all necessary online or classroom environmental courses as directed. Immediately reports any, and all, environmental reportable incidents.
Directs the activities and supports the Production Manager in the supervision of Unit Operators, Auxiliary Operators, and Utility Operators.
Direct activities of contractors during equipment outages and / or projects.
Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
Working Conditions
Some travel and work outside of normal business hours. Occasional travel to business meetings and remote facilities, including power plants, pipelines, gas storage facilities and related business offices may be required. While working in certain areas of the plant there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment. Must be available for on-call duties. Required to work rotating 12-hour shifts and must be able to work extended hours and be available for call out duties as required. Expected to remain on duty until properly relieved.
