Operator-Repairperson The Authority of the Borough of Charleroi 3 Mckean Avenue, Charleroi, PA 15022 Company Description The Authority of the Borough of Charleroi is a Municipal Water & Wastewater Authority 27,000 water customers and approximately 10,000 wastewater customers in the Mid-Mon Valley. The Authority operates a Water Treatment Plant, a Wastewater Treatment Plant, and maintains a distribution system in ten communities, as well as the collections systems in Charleroi Borough and Fallowfield Township. Example of Duties Staff are responsible for process control decisions for chemical adjustments and flow controls at the Water Treatment Plant, Booster Stations, and Storage Tanks Responsible for monitoring the Plant and Distribution System SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) computers. Perform sampling of daily, weekly, and monthly required testing for contaminants Perform sampling during Operations shifts to ensure Plant is running effectively Maintenance and repair of the Water Treatment Plant, Booster Stations, Storage Tanks, and any related equipment at said locations. Repair water system pumps, chemical pumps, and a variety of other mechanical equipment. Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment. Troubleshoot and repair plumbing and mechanical systems. Other general property maintenance (changing light bulbs, painting, carpentry, lifting/moving furniture, cleaning, grass cutting, weed eating, tree trimming, and removal) Work Environment Shift work at the Water Treatment Plant to provide 24-hour coverage. Repairman/Operators work rotating shifts (midnight, daylight, afternoon) during their scheduled time as an Operator during the week and on weekends equaling five, eight-hour shifts during the week. Night and weekend callouts for emergency repairs. Exposure to inclement weather at times. Work may occur in confined spaces as well as in elevated areas more than 50 feet. Exposure to hazardous chemicals and environments at the Treatment Plant. Qualifications Possess a high school diploma or GED. Post-secondary education or trade school is preferred but not a requirement. Obtain proper certification from the PA DEP for job position. Candidates already possessing a Water certification are preferred, but not a requirement. Must pass a controlled substance test (drug and alcohol) and have a clear criminal history. Possesses a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees, customers, contractors, and others. Ability to perform heavy labor, including but not limited to, standing, bending, reaching, digging, walking long distances, and climbing ladders. Ability to lift, move, and carry equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. Ability to understand the operation of pumps, valves, motors, and other mechanical equipment related to operations and maintenance.
