Role:
Operates a Grade IV conventional water treatment plant, with producing capacity of 62.6 MGD. Performs SCADA monitoring, trending reviews and adjusts process equipment in the water treatment plant and distribution system. Inspects and/or adjusts equipment. Performs laboratory tests and plant rounds to ensure the plant meets all water quality goals and regulatory requirements. Responsible for taking pro-active steps to prevent and resolve any process failures in a timely manner and make operational decisions to address all process needs including equipment failures, abnormal river conditions, etc. Self-directed and able to perform safe work practices while operating independently in small teams of 3 or less. Participates in advanced training (one year Operator Qualification Program) and preventative maintenance tasks for water treatment. Able to remain safety-focused including the use of PPE, procedures, and other controls. Will be responsible for hazardous chemical unloading and use for all chemicals associated with water treatment. Able to clearly and concisely communicate in written communication as well as verbal. Position requires working in a monthly rotating 12-hour shift, as well as scheduled overtime and periodic emergency call in. Position also requires that a Grade IV water treatment certification be obtained within 5 years of employment and maintained through professional development
Qualifications Physical Requirements:
Must be able to bend, kneel, lift, and perform operations and maintenance activities where space is limited. Must be able to perform work safely and maneuver above, below, or around piping or other plant assets. Must be able to perform physical tasks that could include the use of force of 50 lbs. of force or more. Must be able to frequently walk and climb steps. Must be able to pass an initial physical exertion exam. Must be able to perform outdoor work in adverse weather conditions including heat, rain, cold, snow, or ice. Must be able to perform critical operations while in an encapsulated chemical protective suit, full-face respirator, and self-contained breathing apparatus. Must be able to pass initial and routine spirometry and respiratory fit tests. Must be able to physically adjust to day/night shift rotations while maintaining visual and mental alertness.
Minimum Requirements:
High school education or equivalent Valid Driver’s License Training in either the water and wastewater industry, an industrial plant setting, operations of equipment and plant processes, or ability to demonstrate an aptitude in this area One (1) year experience or training in the operation of water and/or wastewater plant processes or other relevant combination of education and experience to demonstrate sufficient technical and industrial aptitude for plant operations
Preferred Requirements:
Grade IV Water Treatment Plant Operator certification Pay rate for Grade IV Certification starts at $33/hour PLUS overtime Two (2) or more years’ experience in operation of a water treatment plant Experience working rotating shift, overtime, holiday, standby, emergency/abnormal conditions and call-in Computer skills, data entry, and experience keeping a detailed log of actions taken Experience completing documentation that is legal or regulatory in nature with integrity, honesty, and thoroughness Practices good judgment, follow through, and initiative on projects and job tasks Strong written and verbal communication skills Selection Process About the
