Job Purpose Performs various duties as a Steam and Chiller Operator. Tennessee Tech is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Essential Functions Lights off, shuts down and troubleshoots boilers. Maintains proper boiler operation by monitoring and adjusting boiler and auxiliary equipment controls for natural gas and oil-fired boilers. This position must remain at the workstation to immediately respond to emergency needs during their meal period. Performs major and minor maintenance on boilers and auxiliary equipment. Maintains boiler maintenance logs, Operation Logs, and chemical test logs. Plans, schedules, supervises and directs the activities of other heating plant employees in performing routine tasks. Uses tools necessary for the performance of tasks. Performs various cleaning functions. Minimum Qualifications 1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Four years of related professional experience with at least two years of mechanical work experience.
3. Basic knowledge of boiler operations and boiler safety.
4. Ability to service boilers, pumps, pipes, and valves.
5. Knowledge and ability to use tools and equipment for pipe fitting, plumbing, and electrical.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
7. Ability to keep records and make reports. Preferred Qualifications 1. Knowledge of boiler equipment.
2. Working knowledge of boiler operations and maintenance.
3. Working knowledge of natural gas and #2 fuel oil boiler systems. Work Hours Routine work hours are Monday-Friday, 11pm-7am (40 hours per week). Work shifts will be assigned by the supervisor. Must have the ability and willingness to work irregular hours as necessary. This position is on call.
Compensation and Benefits Salary Commensurate with education and experience. Pay grade 8.
