PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

Monitors the overall safety, set up, quality and production of the folder gluer machines within the Finishing operations area. Actively supports the production crews and operators throughout the shift to ensure quality standards, target run speeds, and production efficiencies are consistently achieved in accordance with machine standards and customer specifications.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY

Review and discuss schedule, production and run status with Supervisor of prior shift to ensure understanding of production schedule and customer needs Effectively communicate with all operators at beginning of the shift to review and confirm understanding of production schedule and job requirements Actively engage with all operators to oversee and approve proper and timely set up of make readies and adherence with estimated run speeds Monitor and direct the overall quality of jobs and ensuring that job specifications are met; consistently adhere to SCT Quality Standards and Operating Procedures and model the actions and behaviors that promote a culture focused on the customer and serving others Responsible for verifying that all operators are consistently performing required quality checks and obtaining the required approvals for all jobs to ensure we are producing high quality packaging Coordinate and oversee break schedule in accordance with production schedule; occasionally operate gluers through lunch breaks to maximize efficiencies and minimize downtime Review daily production reports including time gained and lost; review with team members daily to create awareness and drive improvements; actively participate in Continuous Improvement and 5S projects to further improvements and efficiencies within the department Support operators with any production problems that arise; assist with troubleshooting and resolution of issues and assist in repair of machine malfunctions when necessary In accordance with our 5S system, ensure operators maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans; assist operators with routine cleaning and maintenance including handling and stacking of product when needed Operates folder gluer machine or assists with feeding, packing or case sealing as needed to meet customer and production needs. Responsible for overseeing effective training and onboarding of new team members; assists Safety Coordinator with ensuring all workplace and product safety training is completed in a timely manner Actively oversee the training for Gluer and Window Apprentices to meet all training objectives to achieve Operator status; actively coach, develop and train operators on an ongoing basis Monitor status of communication boards and actively work to address and help resolve any outstanding issues in a timely fashion Ensure operators have the necessary equipment and tools assigned to the machine, and notify the supervisor of any tools that would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation Monitor and complete Daily Checklist and Production Report with all required information; submit necessary reports to manager at end of shift Actively respond and report all workplace safety incidents when they occur and assist Safety Manager with investigations for the department ensuring prompt action is taken Ensures crew is producing quality product safely and successfully in a manner that keeps down time and waste to a minimum; utilizes machine downtime in a resourceful manner including training or assisting others, clean up, projects, or performing other tasks necessary within the department. Monitors the overall safety, set up, quality and operations of the windowing department, as needed, and dependent on location.

AUTHORITY

Must have the ability to lead a crew to execute the demands of the finishing operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Minimum of 5 years of machine operator experience including at least one year in a Lead Operator or Lead role; Finishing experience with folder gluer machines in a folding carton operation is required; Must have basic computer skills and possess the ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical abilities and skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must become a Certified Fork Lift operator in accordance with SCT training and carry a copy of your certification with you.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently must lift/move 25 to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during his/her shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which may require both eye and ear protection in some areas. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, if a machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job, questions regarding such operation should be directed to your supervisor as they arise.
