The Fiberglass Laminator Technician is responsible for fiberglass laminating, preparing, priming, coating, and painting various parts and surfaces of boats.

Core Functions:

Apply and work with putties, fiberglass, panels, and components to prepare for assembly. Application of fiberglass materials. Push air voids out of fiberglass laminates with a roller or brush. Catalyze resins, grind fiberglass, and cut fiberglass parts. Ability to properly handle fiberglass molds, care for equipment safely and properly A general understanding of resin infusion and/or injection molding. Ability to safely and properly handle hazardous materials. Mask, tape off, and protect surfaces. Will work from scaffolding at protected heights and in small spaces. Use a variety of solvents to clean surfaces, tools, and equipment.

Additional Job Functions:

Work effectively as part of a team providing high-quality customer service. Maintain and participate in keeping personal work area, shop, and tools clean and safe. Must maintain an excellent attendance record following all company policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook and safety rules. Will be expected to work overtime and flexible hours as needed to meet production schedules and departmental needs.

Requirements:

Candidates for this job may be asked to demonstrate specialty skills outlined under job functions. Understand how to mix and work with resins, putty, primers, and paints typically used in the marine industry. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of fiberglass layup techniques, resin infusion, vacuum bagging, structural repair, and other advanced fabrication methods. Requires visual acuity necessary and appropriate to perform all job duties and requirements as listed. Works well with others and as a team member. Self-motivated, has a desire to learn, and is willing to grow. Must speak English. Spanish a plus.

Experience:

Prefer a minimum of 3 years of marine or similar industry experience.

Safety Requirements:

Adherence to safety protocols and best practices to mitigate potential hazards and maintain a safe working environment for the fabrication team. You will be required to take a 10-hour OSHA class within the first 30 days of employment. Must be able to work wearing a respirator and necessary PPE (provided). Must be able to work in an environment that is usually noisy and dusty, and must be willing and knowledgeable about working with chemicals.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms to stand, walk, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, push or pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
