Director, Plant Operations Position Purpose and Objectives The Technical Process Development Manager will develop and improve processes used to manufacture granulated, agglomerated and microencapsulated powders for dietary supplement, functional food & beverage applications including directly compressible tablets, two-piece capsules and powders. The candidate will be a key interface between the Fluid Bed Process Manager and Technical Services, Quality and Commercial Operations and conduct feasibility studies and commercial production. This is a hybrid hands-on role with strategic & physical demands and is for someone who enjoys the challenge of manufacturing development with a clear understanding of business goals. Essential Job Functions As a team member and technical leader, develop, qualify, and validate manufacturing processes using fluid bed technology for product optimization and new product creation. Hands-on preparation, operation, troubleshooting, breakdown and cleaning of pilot production equipment in accordance with company standard operating procedures. Work closely with Commercial, Quality, Operations, Procurement and Maintenance to meet project, departmental and companywide goals Create process formulations, production batch records and technical reports for granulation, agglomeration, microencapsulation as required for the business. Propose solutions for manufacturing issues to improve quality, yield, processing time and overall efficiencies, supporting and implementing process and formula revisions as applicable. Support equipment transfers and scaleup projects for existing products to maintain or improve production efficiency, quality, and reliability. Provide subject matter expertise, input, analysis and problem-solving support relating to raw materials, equipment, and/or processing conditions to improve product quality and plant operations. Produce and maintain accurate documentation of projects and processes to provide an accessible knowledge archive for plant, product development and commercial operations. Support product development and process technology transfer across multiple production facilities. Comply with Health, Safety and Environmental regulations for the position. Actively promote positive safety culture, follows all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards where applicable. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required 5-10 years’ experience in manufacturing, food science or engineering related field Technical knowledge/skills related to fluid bed granulation, agglomeration, microencapsulation and powder processing Demonstrated hands-on experience conducting R D and commercial scale trials including technology transfer for commercialization Supervisory Responsibility N/A Working Conditions The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Minimum Qualifications Experience and practical knowledge of SAP software Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Chemistry, Food Science or related field or related real-world experience. Experience with dietary supplements, food, flavor, excipient and related ingredients Success Factors Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to identify process solutions and execute trials to prove feasibility. Knowledge of upstream and downstream manufacturing & packaging equipment to predict challenges and optimizations. Excellent communication to deliver clear perspectives on complex formulation and processing requirements. Ability to prioritize, reprioritize and juggle multiple projects and priorities at once. A positive, proactive, high-energy attitude with a bias towards action and success.
