Job Description

Manufacturing Manager – ASME Vessel/Boiler Fabrication – Columbia, SC We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Manufacturing Manager to lead our client’s ASME-certified fabrication shop, specializing in the production of water boilers and pressure vessels. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of manufacturing operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, efficiency, and compliance with ASME codes (Section I, Section VIII Div 1, etc.) and other relevant industry standards. This role requires a strong leader with a deep understanding of heavy fabrication processes, welding technologies, quality control, and project management within an ASME environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:

Direct and manage all day-to-day fabrication shop operations, including planning, scheduling, production, and resource allocation. Ensure all manufacturing activities adhere to established budgets, timelines, and quality specifications. Optimize workflow and production processes to maximize efficiency, reduce waste, and improve throughput. Implement and maintain lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives. Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, and upgrades to ensure operational readiness and safety.

ASME Code Compliance & Quality Assurance:

Serve as the primary point of contact for all ASME code compliance matters within the fabrication shop. Ensure strict adherence to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Sections (e.g., Section I – Power Boilers, Section VIII Division 1 – Pressure Vessels) and other applicable standards (e.g., EN 12952, EN 13445 where applicable, PED requirements if in Europe). Manage and maintain the shop’s ASME certification stamps (e.g., S, U, PP) and associated quality control manuals. Oversee the development, implementation, and enforcement of Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). Work closely with Authorized Inspectors (AIs) to facilitate inspections and ensure compliance. Lead root cause analysis for non-conformances and implement corrective and preventive actions.

REQUIRMENTS
Experience:

Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing management role within a heavy fabrication environment, specifically focused on pressure vessels, boilers, or similar high-integrity welded structures. Demonstrable experience managing an ASME-certified fabrication shop is essential. Proven track record of success in optimizing production processes and improving operational efficiency.

Technical Knowledge:

In-depth knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), including Sections I, VIII Div 1, and IX (Welding and Brazing Qualifications). Strong understanding of various welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW) and their application in pressure vessel/boiler fabrication. Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, P&IDs, and weld symbols.

Desirable Qualifications:
