Job Summary:

The Production Manager is responsible for organizing and managing various projects as well as the day-to-day operations related to production, maintenance, and logistics at the Sparta, Tennessee facility.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:
Establish Goals:

Work alongside other corporate level managers such as ownership, the company president and other top managers to shape and establish company priorities and goals as well as set out strategies and policies to obtain those goals.

Resource Management:

The Production Manager is responsible for managing equipment, financial and personnel resources within his or her area of responsibility to reach the goals set out by the corporate leadership. This responsibility includes the oversight of departmental workload, number of and responsibilities of key personnel, as well as yearly budgeting.

Department Coordination:

The Production Manager is to coordinate the activities of the departments under his or her responsibility to realize the goals which are set out by corporate management. The departments which fall under this area include Production, Maintenance, and Logistics.

Improvement:

The Production Manager is responsible for the overall improvement of the manufacturing environment. This includes reducing costs through improved production efficiencies while maintaining product quality.

Motivation and Conflict Resolution:

As the responsible party over mid-level managers and supervisors who are often put under pressure to perform within short timelines the Production Manager must be able to motivate the staff under his or her responsibility. Additionally, he or she must be able to resolve conflicts which may arise between such personalities. As the responsible manager for the operations portion of the organization, special project assignments may be given. Such projects could require any number of skills or resources outside of the normal scope of the position; therefore, such assignments are to be expected.

Minimum Requirements:

Have obtained a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Management or equivalent. Master’s or advanced level course work in a related field or a master’s in business administration (MBA) is a plus. Have at least 5 years of management level experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in building products or a field which heavily utilizes materials common to the garage door industry; steel, plastics, or insulation materials. Have substantial experience and be able to demonstrate proficiency with the following software programs: MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel. Have substantial experience with a process improvement theory such as Six Sigma, Toyota Production Method, Kaizen, or similar systems. Have experience with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software package such as Oracle, JD Edwards, or SAP. Hörmann LLC manages operations with SAP; therefore, experience with this package is preferred. Have the ability to work on several projects simultaneously. Have the ability to travel on behalf of the company on a regular basis to address various issues which may arise.

Essential Mental Functions:

The nature of working as a corporate level manager requires that a person exhibit certain attributes. Therefore, an effective Production Manager must: Have proven decision making capabilities. Be able to manage people effectively from a higher level in a multi-leveled management structure. Be able to handle the daily stresses associated with responsibilities at the level of the position. The Production Manager is expected to set the tone of the work environment for which he or she is responsible. It is therefore essential that the Production Manager is open and honest with colleagues, thus ensuring the quality of work performed, while fostering an ethical work environment.

Essential Physical Functions:

Although the Production Manager is not expected to perform extraneous physical activities in the completion of their work, occasional trips into areas of production will be necessary, therefore, he or she should be physically able to safely maneuver in that environment.

Equipment Used:

The Production Manager will be required to use a variety of computer-based software packages which are common to any management level position.

Additional Comments:
