Job Overview :
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the commercial bread bakery, ensuring efficient production processes, product quality, and adherence to safety and health regulations. This role involves assisting the production manager, managing the production staff, coordinating inventory, optimizing processes, and ensuring timely product delivery. The Operations Supervisor will also be tasked with maintaining cost-effective operation, improving operational efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities :
Production Management :
Assist in overseeing daily bakery operations to ensure that production goals and quality standards are met. Monitor the production process, resolve issues, and ensure that products are consistently high-quality. Develop and implement production schedules based on order volumes and demand forecasts. Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and operational.
Staff Management :
Supervise and train bakery production staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills to meet production goals. Manage shift schedules, payroll, and labor allocation to optimize efficiency. Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and employee engagement.
Quality Control & Compliance :
Ensure that all products are baked to specification and meet or exceed quality standards. Implement and maintain safety and sanitation protocols in compliance with health regulations. Conduct routine inspections to ensure cleanliness and safety in the production area. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal food safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, FDA)
Inventory & Supply Chain Management :
Help monitor inventory levels of raw materials (flour, yeast, sugar, etc.) and finished products, ensuring adequate supply while minimizing waste. Work closely with suppliers to maintain optimal inventory levels and manage orders. Track product quality, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company specifications.
Cost Management & Financial Oversight :
Monitor and control costs associated with production, labor, raw materials, and packaging. Assist with budget preparation and cost analysis, identifying areas for cost reduction and operational efficiencies. Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing waste, increasing yield, and improving margins.
Health and Safety :
Ensure adherence to safety standards, including proper handling of bakery equipment and materials. Promote a culture of safety within the team, regularly conducting safety training and ensuring compliance with workplace safety regulations. Working with team areas leads to developing sop’s in each area of the operation. Help create and deliver all training in each area to ensure proper day-to-day operations and safety goals are met.
Required Qualifications :
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in bakery production or food manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong understanding of bakery production processes, equipment, and techniques.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and quality control processes.
- Experience in inventory management and cost control.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Position reports to the COO.
