Full Job Description Summary:
Manage the production team consisting of machine operators, laborers, facility service personnel and maintenance resources in a way that meets the GTG facilities requirements for safety, quality, customer delight, and employee relations.
Responsibilities:
- Safety, Quality, and Production (in that order) are the top 3 areas of focus for all GTG Team Leaders and employees.
- Team Leaders will ensure all employees are treated fairly and equally.
- On-coming and off going Team leaders will be prepared to recap safety issues, quality concerns, production activities, and maintenance issues (during their shift) at the daily 6:45 (am or pm) manager meeting.
- Team Leaders will hold a “Team Huddle” to review the daily safety, quality, and production plan prior to the beginning of the shift. All team members are expected to attend the huddle, be on time, be dressed in the proper GTG uniform (or appropriate street clothes if employed less than 90 days,) and be ready to start their shift upon completion of the team huddle.
- Monitor your team hourly. Verify company regulations are being followed.
- Monitor product quality. Verify quality checks are being performed as required.
- Execute disciplinary actions based on GTG guidelines, up to and including termination of employment.
- Complete end of shift reports highlighting Safety, Quality, Production, and equipment issues and pass down information for the oncoming team leader.
- Communicate with GTG management via the Daily Team Leader Shift Report and the Extended 24-Hour production report, all information involving day to day production totals, any operations issues, and any machine or system incidents.
- Be an active participant in the PIP program and attend scheduled monthly meetings.
- Supply new employees with their assigned weekly training list and check compliance and progress with the assigned trainer and the new employee (weekly.)
- Provide each employee with an annual competency/performance review and a training refresher update using the training document for their assigned position. Turn these documents in to the HR office for the employee’s personnel file.
- Ensure employees are capable of performing their assigned duties and take corrective actions to review and retrain them if they do not understand or refuse to comply.
Safety:
- Take necessary actions to correct all safety hazards immediately and review the nonconformance/corrective action form with the employees.
- Conduct safety meetings monthly as assigned by the GTG Safety Manager Team Leader.
- Demonstrate your commitment to safety (with your team) by setting the proper examples through your actions, attitude, and interest in their personal wellbeing.
Quality:
- Every Team Leader is an integral member of the GTG Quality Site Team.
- Assure each machine operator and team is performing their hourly quality checklist duties.
- Initial the Team Leader block on the Quality Checklist and Lost Time Summary Report at all machine centers on an hourly basis.
- Establish an effective communication style with your team member that assures you are comfortable that each team player knows their GTG commitment to QUALITY.
- Report any employee quality Nonconformance incident to the GTG QA Mgr.
by completing the GTG Nonconformance Report in its entirety.
Production:
- Verify production is within established product specifications and machines are operating at established centerline speeds (unless raw materials dictate we need to run at a different rate).
- Verify production is in compliance with the daily production schedule.
- Work with maintenance personnel to correct equipment issues and implement operator improvement processes.
- Inform management of situations when production is unable to comply with the production schedule.
For example:
Machine downtime in excess of 1 hour, material quality issues/rejection, shortage of materials to complete or start a production run, and any other issues affecting production control.
- Verify all reports are being accurately completed in the time frames required. (Production reports, quality inspections, material usage, and other reports operators are required to complete before the 7:00 shift changeover.)
- Help operators understand and accurately report true lost time/down time.
Check this on your hourly walk through when initialing the lost time reports.
Housekeeping:
- Each machine crew is responsible for the cleanliness of their work areas and assurance that their work environment meets ASI standards. Make sure trash cans are emptied and all waste is removed by the end of your shift.
- Attend to spills and clean-ups immediately. Log this on the lost time report.
- If your crew is the last to run laminate or print, begin cleaning the system before continuing on to the next scheduled production item run.
- Each Perini has 2 filters for both the tail seal and laminate holding pots (4 metal filters per line.) Make sure the operator and assistant have 1 filter in the pot and 1 clean next to the pot ready for the next shift.
- All 2nd quality items in the blue bins should be packed out between 7 – 7:30 before your shift employees punch out for the day.
- Keep Team Leader office work area clean and orderly.
- All Team Leaders will participate in sharing responsibilities for all customer and/or 3rd party audits as designated by the Site and QA Managers (via a provided detailed assignment punch list.
)
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 year working experience as a Supervisor
- Essential knowledge of computer use, good math skills, basic mechanical aptitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or operations management
- Communication skills.
- Working knowledge of “Excel and Microsoft word”
- History/ability to manage a team of production workers.
