POSITION SUMMARY
Work closely with the Machinist Superintendent to provide support in the overall management of the Machining Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING

Comply with Company, federal, state, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties. Assist Superintendent in resolving issues with regard to day-to-day operations. Assist Superintendent in meeting production schedule, maintaining resources and training needs within the Dept. Provide technical assistance and oversee the workforce in the Machinists Dept. Assign work on multiple assignments during a workday and monitor performance and productivity. Manage employees and plan ahead to have crews work safely. Work with minimal supervision. Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly and/or indirectly supervise employees assigned to the Machinists Dept. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work.
Job Requirements Education/Experience:
Three to five years’ experience working on manual, vertical, and horizontal machines in all phases of turning and milling in a machine shop environment required. One or more years of prior supervisory experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Mechanical aptitude and an understanding of marine propulsion systems a plus.
Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram forms or plans. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Proficient in the principles of precision alignment of rotating machinery and reading precision measuring tools. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure.
Preferred experience:
BroilerMaker, Crank Shaft Manufacturing, Pump Manufacturing, LeBlonde and Cincinnati Lathes, Boring Mills, Sub Arc Operator, Pump Mechanic.
